never sell a car to friend

sold one of my cars a year ago to a friend, 88 carrrera. called me the other day car just droped dead when he was driving it so he towed it home .he said it had spark so i figuired no fuel right . so i go over to look at it and give one little shot of either to see if its a fuel problem and the car starts right up and stays running ,so i took it for a 15 min ride and everything seemed ok . i checked the fuse for the fuel pump and it looked ok did'nt see any **** on it .so he takes it out 3 hours later drives it for for a little while and it craps out again ,no fuel . any idea what it could be do these elec fuel pump go out like this or could it be somthing else ???

Being an '88 the first thing I would check is the DME Relay under seat.

First thing I would do is stop feeling responsible for the car.
Until the last 10 years most manufacturers only provided a
12 month warranty from new.

Was headed from Sacramento to Carmel on Monday morning. I made it about ten miles south of Stockton and the car just "dried up" on me. Spark was good, temp, oil, voltage all good. Just wasn't getting any fuel for some reason. A tow back to Sacramento and a nice call from Frank's (local Porsche shop) and the problem was solved. The wrench at Frank's informed me that the DME is responsible for 90% of all failures on my car ('91 944 S2) and the Carreras like yours. I bought an extra DME and will keep it in my tool kit from here out.

Start with the DME (about $50) and go from there!

Im having the same problem in a 78 SC.. All is good, same diagnosis! But no start.. Does this have the same DME?
