Looks like a reasonably sensible price if the body really is rot free.

I would take those tints off. And get a passenger in the chase car to shoot the video next time!

Hey Cavallino, welcome to the board!

I saw that car on ebay - I did notice some of the discrepancies between the car and the description, but also that it's one sharp looking car, just not original. Does it run as well as it looks?

I recently bought a 1970 T as well, and it is quite the voyage of discovery. I am finding out all kinds of things about the car - neat original stuff I didn't realize it had (ie the "S" front spoiler is an original steel one), and some problems I didn't originally pick up on (water leaks!).

Like some others have said, I'd suggest that you enjoy the car and spend some time reading before you decide what direction you want to go in with the car. Remember, it's your car, and whatever YOU like is what's important!!

    cheers!

    Welcome to the fray.

This is a great group. Highly opinionated, but as one member said to me, what use would I be to you if I wasn't opinonated?

This group highly prizes the long hoods and considers it molestation to modify one into a high bumper car. Of course, we don't hesitate to make radical changes when we make them into hot rods, and my sense is that a future generation will take as dim of view of that as we do of high bumpers.

As for me, I like 'em all: original cars, restored to show room condition cars, hot rods (I confess - I love hot rods), special purpose cars such as racers and (especially) period rally cars, long hoods, short hoods, pretty much everything - except 996's.

Enjoy your car. And value this group. They can be a little, umm, *frank* at times. But everyone means well and they are a fantastic support group. I could not have completed my last project without the great support from this community.

    Cheers,

get a recommendation for a good local shop from someone here and get a POST purchase inspection done. basically pay a pro to give you your 'to do' list in order of importance/safety.

After you have done this go to an ax as mentioned and learn why these are great cars first hand.

good luck and don't be afraid to ask q's.

well I've done tons of research since my original post. I have learned a lot about 911's in general and my car specifically. I do understand why some people would be upset that the car was essentially 'ruined'. at the same time, however, it was done a very long time ago, when impact bumpers were the 'new' and 'cool' look.

don't get me wrong, the car is not bad looking as-is by any means.. but it is truly a shame to ruin a longhood and convert to an impact bumper.

anyhow, what's done is done, and I will be further modifying the car. cosmetically I would like to go with a retro/hodrod 'RS' look. I will be changing the bumpers and rockers, might go with a RUF CTR 'yellowbird' style, or an RS America clone. I personally strongly dislike the impact bumpers, and to backdate to a longhood requires too many parts I feel.

What exactly would I need to backdate it to a '73 RS? other than the front and rear bumpers... the longhood? any used or aftermarket parts around?

    Here's a starting list:

    • Re-create the long hood
    • Add back all associated front lights and grills
    • RS front spoiler
    • Add back all front bumper items
    • Add back rear bumpers and license panel
    • Add a duck tail
    • Correct wheels
    • Remove front wheel flares
    • Correct rear flares to RS
    • Add in RS rear bumper side trim
    • Re-paint to white or ?
    • Carrera script

Then, there's the interior, suspension, etc.

The previous owner of my car converted to a short-hood IROC body. I like the longhoods but the IROC is cool and it grows on me more and more every time I drive my 1971 911S. I have gone to all fiberglass panels so it is lightweight, unlike the impact bumpers. This would be a little easier than a backdate for you.

Whatever you do, enjoy your Porsche.

    Welcome from another 70T owner.

Based on your most recent post, Flieger's suggestion for body mods may be easiest. I will second others who say spend some time learning the car before you decide to change things. That's pretty much what I've been doing all summer, anyway...

    Good luck,

    Hey,

After looking into it a bit further, it's too much work to convert back to a longhood -- so I'll probably go the same route as you.

Do you have pictures of your car? What rear bumper are you using?

    thanks
