    Newbie: SoCal Local Shop Recommendation

Greetings all! Former lurker/newbie to the board and 911s here.

I've been looking for about a year and believe I've finally found a solid, 1-owner LWB locally here in the San Gabriel Valley/SoCal area that's a solid driver. It's definitely going to need a thorough once-over so I was hoping you guys could recommend a good shop for a PPI that might also be able to do both the mechanical and body work if needed. Here's a short list I've found from web searches:

    1. Carrera 6 (Pasadena, CA)
    2. Scientific Automotive (Pasadena, CA)
    3. TLG Auto (North Hollywood, CA)
    4. Aurel & Dons (North Hollywood, CA)

Appreciate any/all help/advice you guys can provide on who to go with.

Carrera 6 is a body shop and Aurel & Don's is no longer Aurel & Don's.

What about a recommendation in their places then?

Two other shops that come to mind are TRE and Truspeed, but SoCal's not my neck of the woods. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me will be along any time to add to your choice.

You don't hear much about these guys, but they are near me and I understand their reputation is good. No direct experience. And what's with the greenies?

NineEleven, when you say SoCal, you should be more specific to where you would prefer AFA location. There must be 20 very good shops.

In the Valley there is TRE and TLG.
Santa Monica has Otto's, South Bay has a couple, Dutch Treat comes to mind as well as Callas and 911 Service in Lomita.
Long Beach has Modern and Red Line Service
OC has several more. Scott's Independent deserves honorable mention because he is an ESR and RGruppe member. But then, so are others like TRE and TLG.

I've missed many and am not recommending one over another. Just making a point.

You could spare yourself a LOT of grief by going straight to TLG, which is probably where you'll end up ANYWAY...

So you may as well go straight there.

    Ppi

I used Scientific in May for a PPI and they were very thorough. Bought an unrestored 1971 911T. Ask for Jack.

Thanks all. I'm hoping to stay local to the San Gabriel Valley area so Carrera 6 or Scientific would be ideal. I think the car actually has a Scientific sticker in the engine compartment from the 70s-80s! She started up fine, ran very good and appears to mostly need bodywork so Carrera 6 would be ideal if you guys think they also do fine mechanical work. Would love to hear from anyone who's used them. Their website shows a few very nice RSRs that were featured in Excellence and the articles seems to suggest the owner is very knowledgeable.

Callas Rennsport in Torrance is second to none in my opinion. Been a happy customer for over 15 years.

All the greenies for Modern Specialist are there since I have never met a more truthful and fair shop before! I use to live in Long Beach 10 years ago and now I live in Temecula. I still drive to have them do work on my car when needed.
