Correct for 1970 911: Sisal or Coco?

Hi, what would be the correct mats for a 1970 911E, coco or sisal mats? Also would cocomats.com be the best place to source these mats that are closest looking to the originals?

Any input would be much appreciated.

I believe that it was mostly coco mats in the day. I have purchased many sets of coco mats from cocomats.com and have always been pleased. As a point of comparison, I have a set of original coco mats in my '72 in excellent condition and the modern ones look much the same - but they are much nicer. The overall quality is better and the rubber backing is a big improvement over the old ones which usually ended up looking like taco shells. One nice thing about the originals is that they have "PORSCHE" embossed on the rubber insert on the driverside mat - I don't think you can get that anymore.

P.S. I just went to the cocomats.com site to order a set and noticed that they now offer mats without the rubber backing like the originals. Not sure if that's a good thing or not - but it is more original.

Have been communicating with Jeff over at cocomats the past couple of days. Its true they've begun producing some unbacked mats like the originals. Was in a dilemma before placing my order but decided to go with the "improved" version.

I worked part-time in a Porsche/VW parts store in the early '70's. It was run by Gene Babow, a founder of our local PCA region.

The Coco mats came first, then the Sisal mats.

As has been mentioned before, the Coco mats did not have a backing then. The biggest complaints I heard was that the Coco mats let all the debris filter through it and into the carpet and the Coco mats started to shed after a few years of daily driver use.

The big advantages of the Sisal mats were they didn't shed and they had a backing that protected the carpets.

That's what my fuzzy memory recalls, anyway

Thanks 72 S Trga. I actually prefer the "look" of Sisals but decided to go with cocos since they were "correct for 1970. Will try out the sisal mats next..

I have the rubber backed, they stay better in place.
Jeff was able to do a (front) tunnel piece too.
