    Annual Early 911S Registry Event

As each issue of "Esses" takes us to another level it might be worth thinking about other ways to follow suit.

An annual official Early 911S Registry event for example. Drives, Tours, Gatherings, Racing and Adventures!

The 356 Registry is an truly outstanding organization and they put on a number of highly organized events each year, such as their West Coast Holiday. I would love to see us do the same. I realize that there are a number of R Gruppe events, but even though there is a lot of overlap, R Gruppe and the Registry are not one and the same.

I think we would have members travel from all over the world to a well organized Registry event. I know I would be there. The group in SoCal have many opportunities to get together, but those of us further afield don't have that. As with the 356 group, we have a unique culture built around our specialized area of interest

I'm confident that we could enlist volunteers to help (you can put my name on the list) and there are many possibilities for activites.

    Any interest in this idea?

    Cheers,
    JohnA

    John,
I see that you are in Bend. The roads, on the east side of the Cascades, between where I am located (north of Seattle) and Bend are great. I've been down there several times in the last 3-4 years. Not a bad place for a get together.

For sure these two groups are not one and the same. The R Gruppe picks and chooses its' members...
    I would support your idea.

But they do not discourage anyone who wants to come along on a drive. They do prefer early cars over later cars, but you will see more than one 914 and mid year cars. Lately, the RGruppe drives are more or less integrated with a larger event. The one exception is the annual treffen to the CA central coast. Even then I have seen a "guest" or 2. To be sure, it's not a water cooled crowd and you won't see 964's or later very often if at all.

My "backdated" Carrera is rather suspect. I think I need more backdate.

Though i did not make it, wasn't there a great Early S event in Las Vegas years ago ??

Whatever you do, don't organize a west coast event on April 10-12 (Targa California open to 1975 and older cars- all makes, but heavy on our P cars- not picky on who comes as long as your head is on straight ) and May as that is when R Gruppe Treffen takes place

It would be cool to see a grouping of "correct" early S's w/o all the hot rod bling too

Would there be enough support to hold 356Registry style WCH as well as an ECH?
Much as I love driving the West coast (you guys are really lucky), California is a long trip for some of us.
Somewhere in the Appalachians would be nice.

Yeah in 2000 I believe. I drove my blue car alone from Seattle and back via back roads at frightening speeds - probably the best road trip I've experienced.

There is actually a lot of overlap in members between the two groups, especially those who would drive to an event like this. Not sure this economy would support two big events a year, but it might be worth a try.

True, there are so many driving events in SoCal, that one more would be perhaps difficult for scheduling and logistics for people outside of California.
The only logical solution to my thinking would br a "TWO-FER" event held in March before the L.A. Lit Meet.
Arrive in Solvang, for example, on Tues Mar.2nd and do a 2 1/2 day event. Check in Tues do drive on Wed, perhaps to San Luis Obisbo (There are many great roads and destinations in this area). Short drive on Thur and hang out in Solvang, perhaps a Wash & Shine. Solvang also offers great shopping and good places to eat for our wives while we're out with the cars. Depart Fri day to LA for garage open houses or hang in Solvang for morning or whatever. Fri Mar 5th check into Hilton for Lit Show. This is just my rambling, rough idea for an Early S Registry event. Also, the event, in my thinking should be simple, no badges, shirts, posters, goodie bags, just hanging out and D & D ( Driving and Dining ) with friends. The reward? A great issue of the Esses ( could recognize award listing for "fun" classifications. I.E. long distance award, dirtiest car, loudest car, best car to make out in, etc. This type of event would also allow people to minimize travel time and expense.
Just my ideas while sitting at the computer this morning.

+1 to Bullethead (who, BTW, should be over at sportomatic.org as well if his sig is accurate ).

It would be a great idea to move it around the country each year, to places where there are twisty roads to be had. Most mountainous areas fit the bill but for the middle of the country I expect something could be found close to the banks of the Mississippi.
