Thread: What type 911 is the correct application for these 10K rpm tachs?

What type 911 is the correct application for these 10K rpm tachs?

I have two different 10,000 RPM tachs:

    1.) Part number 911.641.304.00; 3/75 production.

    2.) Part number 901.741.302.06; 9/72 production.

What would be the correct factory 911 model types that each one of these would be a match for? i.e. RS, RSR, 911R, 911T/R???

I have a '68S that is getting a 906/911R spec motor built and would like to use the 901 part numbered gauge in it vs. keeping that one in the '69S it's installed in now. That '69S that has been made into a light weight 2.7 RS spec and I am thinking of putting the 911 part numbered gauge into it.

Note the long threaded posts on the back of the 911 numbered gauge. What are those for? Are they for gauge mounting clamps like on '68/69 instruments?

Oh, there is also a photo of the paper tag that came off the '72 dated tach when it was pulled from the car for photos. Don't know what it says, but it's pretty neat.

Long threaded posts indicate that the tacho housing was originally for use on a car mfrd before the push-in type guages came into use - I think 69 or 70.

901.741.302.06 is the type that was used in the 911R (but could be ordered direct from the Race Dept for other/lesser models) - the 5/75 ink stamping could indicate when it was refurbished by VDO.

911.641.304.00 is the later type as used in the 2.8 RSR (but again it could be ordered direct from the Race Dept for other models).
