    Monterey Historics on TV...Porsche

The Monterey Historics are on "Speed" this Friday the 16th...8pm ET and 5pm PT.

They should have lots and lots of KOOL Porsches!

Not holding my breath on this one...

While I was strolling around vendor row @ Laguna Seca, I chanced to bump into one of the Speed Channel commentators - unfortunately I cannot recall his name. He's one of the guys we see "on the auction floor" during the Barrett-Jackson programs. Real nice guy, very approachable...

Anyway, he was commenting that they only "had an hour of air time" to work with...and that's a shame. The Historics are so content-rich that a measly hour of coverage is basically an insult to the viewers...so why bother at all?

I can only imagine all that rich material laying around on the cutting room floor. My hope is that some far-sighted soul at Speed (or whoever handles their production) has carefully archived the overall footage for any future use.

Please don't get me wrong: I understand business priorities, politics, and rice bowls real well... The fact they did the project at all is commendable.

John: I sincerely hope we see you and the 914/6 GT make the "final cut"!

    Cheers
    R/Thom

    Thom,

We'll see if the GT makes the cut...I'm not holding my breath. But, I do hope they do show some of the racing with the 917 group. That was pretty awesome. I was watching them rub each other going into turn 2.

Pretty funny, I was setting up the cable to record this program and it is listed as the "Monterey Historic Races - featured marque is Porsch".

I watched the show tonight...They started with the Can-Am race and worked towards the newer cars. LOTS of editing, they tried to get too much in to too little time.

The segment thst showed Jeff Zwart's book signing and autograph line, you can clearly see some S Registry and R Gruppe members waiting in that line.

You can see the R Gruppe at Buttonwillow Track Day shirt being worn

Mixed bag, unfortunately. Great coverage of the duel between the 935s of Randy French and Bruce Canepa. But for a Porsche marque Historics, WAY too little coverage of the 917 group, which included the 906, 908, and 910.

Yeah, that IMSA dogfight was dreat although I saw a lot more on TV than I did at the track. I did however get to see the CSL slam the door on Canepa from just a few feet away though!

Nice shot! Canepa is always entertaining to watch (I was at the corkscrew).
    That guy can drive.

..it was great to see the "in car" w/ Canepa.....French etc......

but overall......it left alot to be desired.... geez..I was so excited...a great event, and this is what we get?....

...and my taping was even cut short as "program already in progress" appeared in the beginning.........

I guess Ill catch a replay later in week.....

oh well..back to HDTV vintage races.......but even those appear to be all replays at this point.
