hey you original paint guys.
is this paint scheme correct for a 72?
or should the hinge plate and latch mechanism be unpainted?
and is the black background correct?
(this is from darryls 912)
a picture from an original 72 would be great!
thanks

Bob,
I have never seen the inside painted black before.

Rob, everything was painted assembled, the filler neck wasn't installed nor was the rubber cuff. The gas door was installed, so the exposed ends of the bolts were painted. The latch mechanism spring and cotter key was installed and painted. You want to put the rubber buffer in, and adjust the height of the latch arm for gas door fit, before the fender is installed. Getting access to the adjustment bolt after the fender is on will make you not want to do that again. Remove the rubber buffer before painting. The fender was installed before painting which is why you'll see paint on the fender attachment bolt heads except the ones retaining the trunk carpet snaps. The bolts at the cowl were left loose so the beading could be installed after painting.
