Thread: 911 speedster...early

As one directly involved in the project you would know details that were told to me second hand.

Jim, You were going to throw away that mangled aluminum lid! I was down at your place sometime in the early 90s picking up a pair of LWB sport seats and this folorne thing was on the floor by your desk all bent up, scorched, and gooey with melted car cover. I asked you about it, and you said I could just have it.....you must have hosed me on the seats to be so benevolent!
So Bruce sees the lid in my shop and says, " You should call old man Hageman. He can fix that!" He gave me his number. I called, and he asked me to bring it down to his home in Alamo.
I got it back about two months later. Several of my friends (Bruce included) told me I should have had him autograph it! I still have it, in raw aluminum...sadly no autograph...but a neat story!

If I am not mistaken, Haig still owns the car and it is in the Midwest.

Jim, When Stan came to visit me and his car two years ago he had mentioned it was wrecked 6- 8 months after he sold the car in the early 70's. He claims totaled was the insurance term not the actual condition of the wreck. He considered buying it back but didn't have the heart to fix his creation. Obviously you saw the car at the time so the condition of the total could be up for debate, but it really doesn't matter. I can tell you the original pans are straight. Love to have a picture of the car in the state you viewed. Gene Berkamp had the car restored in the early to mid 80's and took some artistic license. He won a few shows including the Oakland show for a second time. From the letters, reciepts, I received with the car, I don't believe Gene is with us. Attempts to contact the family have come up empty handed. The rear end was tapped in the early 90's under the previous owners reign. I have pictures of that hit. Car makes me smile everytime I pull the cover. Firing it up makes the heart pump a bit quicker. Thanks for the input Jim and all you do for the Porsche community. hh

    Well --- venue + exact dates haven't been announced, but . . .

    . . . there's Rennsport Reunion V coming up . . .
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...nnsport-V-2015

Kindova ways off, I know --- but that means you'd have plenty of time to make any arrangements to get there

Also --- the next PCA Parade 'll be in French Lick, Indiana. Dunno if that location's more convenient for you, or not, but . . .

. . . I'm sure any organizer would be thrilled to have your car be there

Been to Parade at Pheasant Run. Sorry, but they don't get the old stuff. Did a 356 ech in French Lick a few years back though and it was a hoot. Great venue too. Rather do the drive to the left coast than the Parade.
