    Hi Eric
Is this the 69-ca71 model as it has the ventilation perforations on the sides?

    Kjell,

Yes, as I learn even more about these "headliners" for targa tops I've found out that this piece is for LWB cars.

Also note that 67 and 68 are different from each other as well. For 1967 you want the headliner that is dished out for the handles, not a "hole" like this one has. The hole type of handle access is correct for 1968.

    regards,
    Eric

And a rare one to boot. THe 912Registery has only been able to document a dozen or so 69 softwindow 912s... anybody have a count on 911s?

Softies were optional up to 1971, and probably through 1972, so it's good for all LWB.

Is the Buffalo one that you got from SWBSAM that you still owe him money for?

Thanks for info regarding this issue. Yes, the latest soft targa is recorded in 71 as I know. I have a copy of the option list for the 69 modells, and it seams that soft targa only came with the optional "shelf" for the back seats? Is soft targa only two seaters?

According to "Excellence was Expected" there was a changeover in 1968 that basically follows that US safety rules (DOT) said that they considered the soft window not safe for rear passengers, so Porsche supposedly took out the rear seats for US production vehicles ordered with the soft window and replaced with the shelf with the storage enclosure. I've recently owned a 68 912 soft window targa with the enclosure and no seats, but I've also seen US production 1968 soft window cars with rear seats....so looks like there wasn't a lot of consistency on this.

Might have been built prior to 68 (the ruling may not have been in effect for cars built before 1/68) or seats added somewhere along the line.

For example - early 69 MY cars built up to at least 11/68 do not have the VIN plate on the A pillar as was mandated by DOT.
