Keep an eye on it that is doesn't suck in moisture.

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.
George,
your car is lovely, and has many nice details.
maybe you would be interested in something I thought I saw with your car.
I was doing a little work on the rear engine fuse cover, I was making a decal for mine.
I noticed your cover is for a late 1971 car....I think your car is a 1971 S.
(this slotted cover, small in size, was only used about 3 months, build cars after Jan1971) a rare and hard to find part.
It looks like your cover is bumped out some. I don't think it should have the small square backlite cover underneath.
below, is the artwork i used for my paper decal
also. below
please see the 2,2 decal....the font is not like the one you have on your car.
people make new ones...including porsche...but the repros are too large and the numbers are red instead of proper orange.
it is very hard to find the right size and font and color...(you can estimate the size by using the defroster wires)

Thanks, Scott, for your eye for detail and advice. I honestly cannot remember whether the cover is original. I looked back at the pics from 2009 and I wished I had taken more. The car was built 12/70. The decal was in an original owners manual and never placed. It needs years of sun to hopefully turn that nice vintage orange color !!

Well, Scott, I only checked this panel cover today as I took it off to take to Amelia Island Concours to see if I “run” into any old racers from the ‘70’s to sign it. I was actually shocked to be see the original sticker. I had no idea it was still there. Amazing !! I will handle it with kid gloves ….. !!
