    Cobra Daytona history

Not be missed if you get HD Theater on your cable/dish. I saw this show last night and just the archival photos, film footage, and interviews about the development process are not to be missed. Only thing missing was Shelby himself. Pete Brock deliverd most of the historical perspective...

It will be replayed a number of times during the coming week.

That is a great show, and has interviews with a lot of the guys that were involved in building the cars. It's not until the last 5 minutes of the show that we find out it's really a commercial for Mecum Auctions trying to sell the car. It is definitely worth seeing and well done - in spite of the last 5 minutes.

The Discovery show was pretty good, but if you are looking for something much better on the subject, I highly recommend buying the DVD "The Cobra Ferrari Wars".

It was originally supposed to be like a 1 hour program, but, if I remember correctly it has like another 5 hours of vintage footage!

    Agreed...

Still worth watching despite being a commercial for Mecum.

    Happy Endings

First: HD Theatre has some GREAT shows, fantastic documentries.

I enjoyed watching the show and was felt the ending was a let down..
Not just for being a Mecum commercial at the no sale auction, but for ending the show there.

The car sold in August in Monterey. Mecum had the car in its auction at the Hyatt. It sold for 7.25 million.

What I don't understand is why end the program there. Everyone is sad at the no sale, go to commercial. Start the segment with the Monterey HYPE all over again. The car sells, show ends, everyone is happy.

They had 4 months to add/edit the footage, even delay the program.

I agree about the editing for the auction program. Looking forward to the next broadcast of America's Greatest Racecar, next date is this Friday at noon so set your DVRs.

    An aside:
Wonder if the purchaser of the Daytona #26 also has the #26 copy of the excellent catalogue published years ago by George Stauffer? (EDIT-BS: Mine is #53 Tried like crazy to get #26 but missed it; first come, first served on only 400 fully signed copies printed. I chose #53 because it's the number of the one "British" Daytona, run by the Willment team. Not that I'll EVER have a chance to own it. (End EDIT)

Glad to, Mark... but man if my brain is this dotty now, maybe lots of Ginko Biloba is a good idea. In defense, it has been almost 15 years since the book has even been off the shelf, but does not excuse conflation. I'm embarrassed to admit it is #42 (and worse, the Willment car is #59!) but there is a nice note from George explaining why individual numbers couldn't be reserved.

Believing otherwise, hoping for #26, #48, #59, #98 or #188 as all are significant race winning numbers, and trying to weasel Mr. Stauffer into confirming during a nice conversation at an event in 1995, just prior to publication. Feel stupid now. I even bugged him before shipment... glad he was so tolerant. But somehow don't remember the dissappointment of not getting a "number". So I'm a forgetful, conflating schmuck. No, a pic of the cover posted might be OK for anyone reading the thread, but would be BS, and not who I am.

Anyway, here it is. Great catalogue BTW, gonna read it again 'cause I'm sure I've f#@%ed up the actual history in my head. Like the Breedlove & Willment histories.
