    Show Your Garage

Reading the great thread about Milou's garage gives me an idea (this is the point where everyone that knows me well either groans or rolls their eyes). How about a new thread showing pictures of our garages? I'd really like to see how folks have organized their garages, especially those with limited space that use them as active workshops in addition to storing the cars. And also ideas to make them great man-caves.

Here's an old picture of my modest auto abode. I'll take some more as soon as I get it cleaned up a bit.

    Cheers,

    Garage

Those are very nice garages.........and now for a really modest garage....

This is where I spend way too much time. Very basic, 2 car variety garage and this is what it looks like towards the end of a project. I could make use of several times the space, but I am a dedicated DIY guy and it has worked well for several engine builds, basic wrenching projects and my current 71E resto project. The engine on the test stand, will be mated to the tranny in the background and installed in the next week......my goal is to drive it out of the garage on New Years day!!!!!

    Regards,

    Al

    Curt...

    Love the hose holder.

That's what I mean by getting ideas from other garages.

    Poor Man's Garage

I had an 84-year-old garage that was wasting away as storage for boxes of junk from three successive moves. I went at it in a week of hard lifting (and carrying, to a rented dumpster) and the new shelves and cabinets were made with whatever wood had already been somewhere in the place. The first bench was an old hardwood door, and a lot of the cabinetry is made of cheap, thin sheets of particle board. Later on, I added a steel bench and a butcher block island in the center, both of which increased the budget, which had been $500 when I first cleaned it up.

I let my wife pick out the colors for the paint. I told her I wanted it to look like my memories of working with my father in his shop back in Chicago.

The steel bench is a 1" thick piece of plate on top of a Strong Hold cabinet. (I've got to figure out what to do with that anvil next.)

A butcher block island I put in earlier this month:

You can see two fold-down benches along the wall behind the car.

    One is for wood working.

    The other one for welding:

There was an old sink that was kind of clumsily plumbed in. I added a counter top around it:

I'm still working out places to store things like clamps. Not sure where the portable air tank is going to go.

    A cool angle:

To hold all the stuff that would have cluttered the garage up, I also built some storage in the driveway.

Curt's garage has a full-size Strong Hold cabinet in it. They're made of 12-guage steel and are sturdy enough to hold a lightweight 911 on each of their shelves. I got a small one and used it as the base for my steel bench, but I've liked it so much that I've been keeping an eye on ebay for second-hand models -- and recently found a pair of them. So I'm going to be re-doing the back wall of the garage some time this winter to fit them in.
