Thread: Restoration of a RHD 2.2S.

    Restoration of a RHD 2.2S.

    Hi,

I have been meaning to post some pics of my RHD 2.2S that we are currently restoring. It was in very poor condition when I bought it after being caught up in a workshop fire, filled with water then left outside rotting away for some time.

Anyway I am sucker for these early cars and hence a full resto has begun.

The engine (matching numbers) has seen better days.

What was really interesting is that last year we sold, after fully restoring it, a different RHD 2.2 which was in fact the twin to this car. By that I mean they left the production line one after the other! and to top if off they were both RHD 2.2Ss, both in metallic silver with Black interiors, both with recaro sports seats, both tinted glass etc.

Here is its twin 2.2S after resto

Back to this 2.2S. What remained of the car was stripped. The shell was braced in preparation for amount of rust/metal works that was going to be removed.

WOW! Good thing you have a jig. That motor looks like it was sitting on the botton of the ocean. I look forward the restoration pics. You do great work.

    Restoration of a RHD 2.2S.

YOU WIN !!!!!Never have I seen a car taken so far apart. I trust you're a young man, a 60 year old would never live long enough to finish it.

Sir Alan (has a nice ring to it).

When you finish this car (I use that word loosely) you will, no doubt, be knighted.

This is the current ultimate instance of lifting the chassis plate up and rebuilding the entire body underneath it !
...hmmm, how would an automotive psychocologist diagnose you ... a 2.2 S tragic ?
More pics as you go along pls...

    Cheers,
    Dennis.
