Thanks everyone. Not much to report tonight, I fitted the second bin door and had to put a good primer/sealer on the wood to avoid future warping and lay a good base for the upholstery adhesive. Tomorrow night should see some impressive progress.

I've made some progress in the last two nights. I've probably got about two more nights to go, so hopefully by this weekend I'll have the seats back inside and be back in action.
I left this joint recessed so that when I installed the carpet across the top and over the front it would have a recess and allow the front vinyl to still sit flush:
Ready for glue:
Stapling:
Now for the foam which gets laid down on the face before installing the vinyl (sorry about the shadow):
Now for the vinyl on the face:
I chose basketweave to match the inside front door panels:
Now the first door, which is in standard black vinyl for contrast and 'cool factor':
One door done, now you can see the contrasting fabrics. My goal is to create something subtle but unique:
Cheers,
-Mike
Mike,
Thanks for the complement on my car!
Your shelf is pretty special. Better than mine!
I like the openings you have for the top. Lots of thought
2 lessons I learned:
leave lots of extra carpet, trim to fit with the
shelf installed. You won't see any gaps that way
that is a tip I heard how Autos International
installs
I used a type of angle iron for the brackets. Used the same bolt,
and a large washer to attach to the seat back mounts. I did make the holes
more oval than round. This gives you some up/ down placement.
The up down movement confirms you to keep the
shelf level. Differences in carpet thickness, padding, causes this

Thanks Ray, your compliments mean a lot to me. As I said, your car was my inspiration. I took your advice about the carpets and the bracket, and the installation as a result was a breeze. Thank you. Here are the final pictures, I hope everyone likes them. I'll take one more at night so you can see the lighting that's wired in, but in the meantime you can see the lights on the inside of the lid.
I am especially proud of the removable trays, as I think they make the space inside the luggage deposit even more useful, especially for my GPS and iPod, etc.
Cheers,
-Mike
Brilliant! Nice work too!
I think that's going to be my next project...thanks for the inspiration.

If you ever think that you would make these for sale, I would love one. I think it adds an element of organization that you can feel safe with. I never like to leave things in the trunk area since you can not access it while driving.
