Thread: 65 Aluminum early 911 engine case

65 Aluminum early 911 engine case

1965 Early 911 2.0 liter engine case, non modified. Very nice clean condition. My understanding is that it is FIA vintage car racing (European) legal. Both casting halves have "65" cast into them. The cast in part numbers are 901.101.102.01 and 901.101.102.01. The SERIAL number is 903519, and 901/01, 3419 is also stamped on. This is the case from which the crankshaft that I posted earlier came from. $2.500.

Actually in talking to a friend who is "in the business" he thought I was lite on the price, being that a 65 case is very rare and you nees a 64 latest 65 case to qualify for FIA vintage racing. So I am raising the price to USD $2,800. plus shipping costs. Sorry for the confusion.

Oh wow, that is the last case in my build list with the build & serial #'s in sync (offset by 100). If you could post a photo of the build # 3419 also, that would be great. Casting dates look like 8 & 9 1965 (counting the dots around the 65). What is the case pairing # on the top of the case please? Very nice looking case.

The case pairing numbers are 69. Yes their are respectively 8 and 9 dots around the "65" case date cast ins.

Thank you very much. The data really helps narrow down the range for me.

I am curious as to why you bothered to remove all the head studs given that it's an aluminum case. I guess I don't see any point to that.

They should be replaced anyway and it's easier to ship one without them installed.

    Hi Tom,

Hunh! There was just a big yak about this on the 356 forum recently. The conclusion there was that the studs are just fine. Clearly the case would be easier to ship without the studs

If one is going to use stock biral cylinders on an aluminum case, what do you recommend replacing the old steel studs with? I've been aware of the mag case stud issue for 25 years but this is the first I've heard about this issue and an aluminum case.

    Thanks!

They were probably (maybe) fine but if you're there why not change them? What is your piece of mind worth?

I'd install ARP hardware. Studs, thru-case bolts, rod bolts.

    EBS or LN Engineering.

Yes, $2,500 USD is correct. Plus UPS shipping/insurance, tbd. I will pack.
    Thank you for your interest.
