Soda blasting is pretty easy to do at home. The media is cheap at Harbor Freight ($40: 50 lbs) and you can use a Harbor Freight blaster cart ($150) if you have shop air to deliver it. All in, you can do it cheaper than a blasting shop and keep the tools.
Then you just wash the media down the sewer drain.
Just wanted to throw out an alternative...

We had a 911 tub soda blasted and the outcome was a failure. The soda did nothing it was claimed to be able to do by the company that did the job. It was a total waste of moeny and time.
Soda blasting is pretty much only useful for sensitive areas like aluminum parts or engine cases where sand or glass are destructive. I'd never use it on a tub as soda is not aggressive enough.

It is the best on engine cases as you need not be concerned about it finding it's way into oil galleys. Water soluble and non-aggressive.
It will make an engine case look brand new.

Thanks for the input - but don't really want to do it at home.
Anyone else have the name of a good blaster in So Cal?
Tom's point is dead on. I bought a fan blade from Tom Butler (owner/builder of a fabulous orange rsr re-make in Excellence a few years ago) and he soda blasted it before shipping. It looks fabulous and the anodized areas stayed completely anodized and look great. I am going to email him to see if he can jump in on this thread.

IIRC, soda blasting does not work on surface rust, correct?

Call Dick at Best of Show in San Marcos, CA. He has a guy. It worked great on the cars that I've seen them do. I had my wheel wells and engine compartment soda blasted and although the guy said it was hard to do they came out perfect. 760-480-0227 Tell him Scott sent you.

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.
But after that moment you are on your own and nobody owes you a damn thing.
