    917s at Amelia

There was a very nice collection of 917s on display at Amelia this weekend from cars that looked like they just finished an endurance race to fully restored examples.

The chief judge for the 917's at Amelia, was none other than G+W's Weldon Scrogham...

    Weldon

Yea, Weldon's a great guy. I helped him inspect a few P cars at the Gooding auction (simple things like reading engine numbers because of poor lighting). You can certainly learn alot from him. At 70+, he's an inspiration for sure.

They should have fired those 917's up at midday to give everyone treat.

Funny thing... when one of them was started, it wasn't so dramatic since they only trundled around the field to the display stand. There was a cranky Ferrari guy barkin' like he was scolding kids as #2 came back through the display area: "Hey! Slow it down, slow it down!" Too funny.

Piper's 917 never moved under it's own power but still looked good! Fun tow.

When Dicky Attwood used to come to the PCGB Annual event with his 917 - once the sun (yeap it occasionally came out) was going down or down he'd start up the 917 - bleeding memorable that's for sure .....

I've been for a ride with that fella (unfortunately not in one of his 917's). He definitely knows what the pedal on the right is for and isn't some tea-sipping car-waxer who just likes to park on the golf course...

^^^ What made it funny was #2 was rolling at maybe 10 mph... but Mr. Ferrari had been a pip all weekend. We had the (dis)pleasure of arriving at the hotel at the same time and he is, let's say, of a sort. Demanding the staff let him park where he wanted, valuable car, he's an entrant, etc., etc. Yeah, bub... there's a bunch of 'em here but you seem to be the dick. Complimented his 500 Superfast, (hey, I LIKE old Ferraris), he just sniffed. A cartoonish a-hole.
