    Brake caliper bolts SWB

What is the special bolt socket pattern on the early SWB front calipers? Not a Torx, I've been told. Are these even the stock ones? (The rears have allen head bolts.)

The idiot PO left one bolt out, stripped the inside of one, and put short ones in long holes and vice versa, so I need the tool to remove these (I don't plan to separate the caliper halves). Anyone have the tool to rent? And I need two of the longer bolts. Anyone have the bolts from an old caliper?

    Thanks in advance.

Ribe, not too easy to find, but I have a supply and a supplier.
Almost better to send that one to Eric at PMB.

If you have access to a welder stick something like a allen wrench in the bad one and tack it. Put a wet rag around caliper or if you have some heat sink prior to welding. Can't help on the proper tool.

Dave is correct - Ribe. I bought a nice set off the web for ~$60. I can get the info if needed. Several good threads on the topic of caliper restoration.

Dave also giving good guidance on Eric - maybe send all 4 and get a first class restoration for a fair price.

Nothing wrong splitting the calipers, but you will need new seals - still available from Porsche.

Need to be careful in sourcing the proper new bolts as well.

    I vote for Eric x 4 calipers...

Thanks everyone for the info and pointing me to PMB. Bill, If you have your source for the Ribe tool, I'd like that. Also, were did you source new bolts?

You can buy the RIBE bit from your local Wurth store.

    Hi Terry.

I got the pictured set from Tool Discounter off of the web for $47.06 plus shipping in Sept. '09. The "brand name" is SPX. It's a really nice set (and I'm a tool snob). With a quick search I couldn't find what I bought, but here are some "L" wrenches:

    http://www.tooldiscounter.com/ItemDi...lookup=OTC4609

You will need the 8 mm.

I reused my old bolts to retain originality - but look for an equivalent socket-head cap screws of sufficient strength. There is a good thread here somewhere.

Tip: Use the Ribe end of the "bolt" only to keep it from turning and do the "rotating" part on the nut only.

    Good luck,

    Bill
