    Road trip questions

My son and I are leaving California Sunday afternoon on a little Route 66 odyssey. I have a couple of questions:

    - the car has been recently painted. Should I put a bra on it or just wax?
    - any thing out of the ordinary you would bring? The MFI belt is new, but I do have an extra. I have a complete tool kit - what am I missing?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    TY

How long is your trip going to be? By complete tool kit, do you mean the Factory tool kit or your own tools? Well I can get your list started.

    -Flashlight and spare batteries
-Several quarts of oil and a funnel
    -New fan belt
    -Spare cap and rotor
    -Spare coil
    -Extra CD box
    -Spark plugs
    -Clutch cable
    -Fuel pump and filter
    -Fuses
-Extra headlight, turn signal, brake light bulbs
-A real jack (944 Aluminum jack works great)
    -Spare wheel barrings
-Good length of new fuel hose
    -Jumper cables

    No bra ever. Have fun!

In addition to what Brian said, duct tape. Credit Card. Upgrade your AAA card (need one year membership on the books in order to upgrade). Perhaps some sort of flare/triangle in case you are stuck by the roadside.

What Brian and Karl said. Hopefully you won't need any of it. Be sure to assemble your own tool kit also. No bra...

I would add some JB-Weld 5 min. Epoxy...
Just a couple of little tubes in a small zip-lock might bail you out. Oh, in that same zip-lock add some rubber gloves, a few cardboard squares, and a couple of popsicle sticks .....

This little bag of stuff has come in handy for me more then once........

    Cheers

I don't know your ignition system, if it's something modern, I'm off base but....
    points?
    condenser?
    distributor cap?
    rotor?
a few feet of plug wire with spare ends to make iup a spare line?
    fuel filter?
    fuses?

    etc.

One may not find a lot of these pieces on highway 66, once beyond San Bernadino.

    have a great advenure!

    Thanks for the good advice.

The engine has about 5K miles on in; professional rebuilt. The ignition is stock points/cdi.

Heading out on some lonely stretches of Route 66/I40. I have the upgraded AAA, but who know if there will be cell service etc on some of those back roads. We leave Sunday afternoon for Laughlin via Amboy etc, then up early for Oatman/Kingman/Flagstaff and the Grand Canyon. Perhaps one more day eastbound (Santa Fe?), then I40 back to LA. My son is 14 - I don't know how much longer he'll want to do this sort of thing...

Wish me luck - I hope these 911's are as stout as they say they are!

Since you'll be in some remote areas I would bring an electric air pump + a tire plug kit.

Sounds like a great trip - your son will never forget the experience

The laws oif probability which are too often true on my road trips and race weekends say that, "If you have a spare, the original won't break." So either take one of everything, or leave behind thos parts which you believe you can scrounge and you like to replace. Have a great trip!
