Where does this engine electrical panel ground strap connect?

This was connected to one of the CD box mounting bolts, and the other end connects to the chassis ground stud forward of the fuel pump. The ground looks to be original to the car.

Connecting to the CD box seems odd because the eye on that end is the wrong size (too large). Any thoughts appreciated!

The one that attaches to the box has a faston tab on one end that goes to the "D" terminal. That does look original however, and I think it goes just where you say, to ground the engine electrical console to the stud.

A lot of this stuff is for VDE electromagnetic emissions compliance, but it can't hurt.

It goes from in between the lower, inside lord mount and the circuit panel to the ground lug on the chassis. It can be difficult to install properly with the engine in the car which is probably why it was hooked to the CDI box bolt. But it goes between the panel and the panel mount.

If you were to pull the panel completely out of the car - and if that panel still had most of the original paint intact - you'd see an unpainted circular area around the lower, inside slotted bolt hole on the back side of the panel. That bare aluminum allows this ground strap to ground the panel to the chassis lug.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Marco, that makes perfect sense! I have the panel out for a full refurb and will maintain the bare contact patch. Manu, I do have a ground from the chassis grounding stud to the fuel filter console, but it's a standard brown insulated ground wire.
