    Tire rubbing

For no apparent reason the left rear tire is rubbing so badly that the inner sidewall is warn thin, no logo's anymore, soft with bubbles.

The car is VERY low, always has been but the rears never rubbed before. The wheel well shows no sign of rubbing except for some burnt rubber shavings stuck in there. No warn undercoating...go figure. I have the max negative camber and it needs it to fit the tire inside the wheel well. I am running 205 / 55 / 16's on Fuchs.

I suspect I will need a notch of torsion bar indexing. Can this be done without having to have it aligned again? I replaced the rear t-bar bushings a couple years ago.

Any other thoughts, suggestions are greatly appreciated

Rubbing on the inside? Is it hitting the spring plate bolts? Are they already shaved down to the nuts? Do you have room to fit a 4-6mm spacer without clearance problems on the outside? That would be the easiest fix...

Spring Plate clearance is a big issue with fat tires. This car has 15mm spacers with 911 R wheels. 205's, no rub. Bigger isn't always better but on a later car you can get away with more without resorting to grinding bolts and other nefarious activities.

    Good luck,

No plenty of room from the spring plate nuts. I think it was rubbing the inside corner of the tire on the inside of the wheel well. You would think it would rub the under coating off but it has not. I think the inside top inch of the tire has been rubbing against the inside fender. Why, after all these years it would do that now. That side has been about half an inch too low ever since I changed the t bar bushings. I am going to raise it a notch and see what happens.

Still don't get why the whole inside side of the tire is gone (much more than the corner that appears to have been rubbing). 18 months ago a towel got caught in the wheel well and caught fire while headed down the highway. It was that wheel. I wonder if that cauld have caused the damage.... I think I would have noticed it before now if this is the cause.

The tire is really close to the outside fender. Can't get my pinky between the fender and the tire so I don't think spacers will work eather.

Like I said the car is intentionally low with the biggest tire that would fit.
