    SWB front pan replacement

    I know this is an old topic but I haven't found the answer to this question yet...I don't have MIG but I do have TIG and the standard Ox/Acet torch and would like to know if there is a thread (or other reference) that talks to front pan replacement with my tools. I expect to use a spot weld drill and to grind away old pan material but trying to weld through the lip of the new pan and get a good connection with the parent material is trouble with my tools.

    Help in practical solutions is appreciated in advance.

    SWB front pan replacement

    Paul, although I use a spot welder and mig to do this, all you should have to do is predrill 3/16th" holes in the new metal then use your tig to rosett weld. Probably the hardest part will be the pinch weld seams along the bottom, but certainly not impossible. Just be sure to keep the 'to be welded' area well clamped as you weld, but that holds true for any welding method as you well know.
