help with ID on a ducktail please.

can anyone id this decklid from the pics? it's one of those things where asking too many questions might give the game away. looks to be a metal frame anyway. thanks much, Don.

It's one of the poorly made, all-fiberglass variations. Keep looking...

it looks like a metal lid with a bonded tail. the thin edges don't look like fiberglass. you've seen full glass ones like this? thanks, Don.

The give away I see among others is the bracket for the A/C condensor looks SC/Carrera era parts to me. Also on the factory tail center rib bends up and doesn't go straight.

    My thoughts at least

Don, it is a bad repop (I've owned many real ducktails). Here are a very good white repro, a '73 standard lid, and a genoowhine Carrera RS decklid. Note the sidewall thickness where the tail itself rises from the lid frame. This means that the grill surround area is at a flatter angle and the lower lid cover is at a steeper angle than a stock lid. It's a dead giveaway. You can see it from a hundred feet away once you know what you're looking for.

There's more things wrong with the blue example, but why beat a dead horse?!

I didn't think it was a real duck, was more curious if anyone recognized the work. thanks jens for the comparison pic, that's a keeper. the big thing I don't like about the f/g tails is that thick edge where it meets the quarter, the one I posted has a much nicer edge. also will take a metal grill perfectly, the f/g ones I've had seemed made for the plastic grills. .

Maybe a nicer edge, but the blue one's shape is all wrong.
Here's a fiberglass tail with the right shape.

I talked to the guy again, it's a glass duck bonded to a steel decklid. I think I see what you mean Jens, about the angle. the back of the tail on the blue one is pretty much at right angles to the decklid, the correct angle is more laid back. I liked the steel and glass idea but maybe I'detter keep looking. Don.
