    opinions re cracked dash

    help me out guys,
i am nearing the end of my restoration... yay!
i am also nearing the end of my money and patience.....booo!
if you've been here you know what i'm talking about.
my dash has the typical cracks, not perfect but better than most.
the car is a lowly E and not a cocours restoration.
    after dropping $1500 for new TB's and $1500 to rebuild my MFI pump;
(not to mention the complete engine rebuild $$$)
i just want to finish, another $800 to fix my dash may result in my divorce!
so... i've convinced myself the crack is desirable patina.
i can always fix it later.
    waddaya think?

I think every time you drive the car you'll say to yourself why didn't I just find a better dash. It will haunt you at night in your sleep.

I find I can ignore things that are out of my line of sight, but anything that is constantly in front of me irritates me to death. Bite the bullet and do it, it will only get more expensive. Have you asked Tony at autobahn what he is charging these days?

Embrace it,love it,if it is a familiar crack pattern you will always feel at home.(im in the same boat and have not seen a viable solution for dash restoration)
Keep in mind that no one else will get it and you will have to keep explaining why.BTW there is nothing lowly about an E. Cheers Steve

    'Nice'

I've got a cracked dash. Small one, maybe half an inch, between the speaker opening and the windshield.

Know it's there. Glance over at it every time I sit in the car.

But its an original dash --- been in the car for 40 years.

Could fix it. Wouldn't make the car any faster or any more reliable. Just . . . 'nicer.' (Never liked that word.)

I'll probably do the dusty gauges, the baggy visors, the smooshed seat ---- the usual list.

    But the dash stays.

One less thing to worry about. One less thing to make 'nice.'

Besides --- leaves more money for gas, oil, and tires . . . and Monterey. In 9 weeks!

Lowly "E" lowly "T", maybe we should all stop worshiping the "S" gods and appreciate the cars for what they are doing, appreciationing.

Full bare metal repaint, detailed underside, trunk, and engine compartment, new carpets, headliner and seat covers,etc.etc.etc...but my dash is cracked in three places. It doesn't bother me a bit. The car is a driver, and the dash reminds me to drive it and have fun.

    Rob,

I assume the $800 does not include the labor cost to remove/reinstall windshield (if contracted out), plus new seal. Then you might say hmmm, that windshield sure is pitted, another $500+. Careful how deep you go.

You could go to autozone and get you one of those carpeted dash covers

I bought a dash cover from Pelican and since my crack wasn't on the front it definatly did the trick.

That nos dash looks great though but it isn't cheap 1500
