    SWB headlights in later car?

I have a set of early headlights that I'd like to put on a 74. They would fit fine if I removed two of the four in-bucket brackets that hold the later headlamp unit. Would prefer not to do that. Anyone done anything clever to deal with this problem? Thanks, Jim

Edit: I was wrong but I'll leave the story here for future Porschephiles. The older SWB headlamp unit does fit, at least on my car. If you take the H4 or sealed beam lamp out so that you can see how to maneuver the headlamp carrier into position, you'll see that the two long adjustment screws and the "brackets" which attach them to the moveable shell inside the carrier just miss the in-bucket brackets. Looking at mine it looked like one of those brackets might need to be ground off some, but no need. Everything just fits!

Intriguing. I thought for sure they'd need to be trimmed, but I only messed with then for less than a minute. I recalled it was the light backet that hit, not the adjusters. Good find!

Saw your note here but decided to try anyway. Sometimes you get lucky. Jim

Mine hit on my 72 T and I elected not to trim the tabs and shelved the idea for now.

So either there are annual changes or the tab locations are individual to the cars. You wouldn't think the latter as it would seem to affect aiming.

My '67 headlights would not fit on my '68 without removing/bending/grinding two of the tabs in the buckets, and this was SWB to SWB!
