    No Driving This Week . . .

    . . . seat 's out for repair

It's not like I've put that many miles on it, but the seat 's always seemed a bit fragile. The shell and attachment feel fine, by themselves --- recall, this is 50-year-old fiberglass-cum-wood secured to an ancient set of alu rails by four wood screws (gulp!), mounted to an equally ancient floor bracket. This seat was put-together/bought/installed ~8 years ago . . .
    http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...l=1#post531608

. . . but the covering seemed a bit delicate for what little road duty it was expected to support. I'd noticed the corduroy covering coming adrift some years back . . . just tucked it in/carried on. But other sections had started loosening, as well, so before things go too outta hand . . .

The side bolsters were doing fine --- almost no wear, at all . . . but the center pad was pretty-much unraveling, so . . .

. . . pulled the whole thing out, yesterday, took it to a Guy Craig Stevenson introduced me to, what? --- 30 years ago, now . . . Pete Engle, owner of Westminister Auto Upholstery. Last time I saw Pete, I asked him if he could mod a tonneau cover to fit around the roll cage of a Defender . . . so its been a while.

    Basic instructions . . . = make it work

    Saddle 's Back

Picked-up the seat from Pete's, last week

All put-back. Pete said that he could prolly get a decent match to the corduroy, but he ended-up re-using the material that the seat came with. It's not like it was all-that worn, anyway. So, he replaced the foam padding, sewed-up some side panels for the center cushion, then glued everything back in. Neissenteit

    $180 . . . + I tossed-in a sixer o' Blue Moon

    Already test-drove it, too

Really like this seat. Always forget how stupid-light it is

That type of corduroy is very comfortable. Got a set of Scheels with something similar. It's amazing material. Great repair on that seat for a very reasonable price.

    Door Pockets

Been dealing with my saggy-nasty door pockets for quite a while now

Considering Porsche's reputation for engineering prowess, their whole door-pocket approach seems pretty slip-shod --- as in pressed cardboard, contact cement, vinyl, bungie cord, + alu extrusion. Stop me me if I missed anything. Not that I use them a lot --- uh, like, never . . . but after a half-century flopping-around on those doors, these things are just dismal. To the point where I try not to even look at them

Well, the other day I kinda took a look at one --- the driver's side one . . . the one that's been slowly disintegrating, annoying me (+Marco) the worst

    It's actually not that bad

The whole assembly looks to be un-hit/-hurt, intact, with most of the bits still there + serviceable. OK, the bungie-cord part looks to be done --- I'm afraid to even touch it, let-alone exercise it. But the cardboard pouchy part seems t' ve held its shape, more-or-less, and, apart from un-sticking, the vinyl covering actually looks fine . . . the material 's un-cut/-scuffed, still soft + supple, perfectly serviceable

The only really crappy part --- apart from the toasted elastic . . . is the alu extrusion that borders the top edge o' the pouch

Man --- is this thing knackered or what?

I pulled this little bit o' trim off a few months ago --- just about ready to fall off, anyway . . . but that didn't really help matters. The covering 's just getting looser. Not sure if the trim bit can be salvaged --- replaced, maybe? . . . but in the mean time, Office Depot to the rescue

My car has a single vintage Blaupunkt on the rear deck. Same one as in the last picture. Guess a stereo head unit was installed at the dealership.

In 1973 Blaupunkt used to recommend a single rear speaker with stereo set up. I have a review of the top of range Blaupunkt Bamberg written in 73 that describes this and how to wire. Think I posted it before ? The Bamberg became available in Feb 73 for Porsche 911. Expensive option just a fraction cheaper than the Mexico radiocassette.

There were a number of different shape and size rear speakers in their range at that time. At one time I was considering updates to use them so over years I have collected most of the range they offered usually as pairs plus nos faders etc.etc Also got the vintage Becker speakers but these days won't be fitting any of them to my 911 as rear shelf is original and won't be cutting it drilling it because prefer to leave it as I received it without carving up original fittings.

They are in storage but this snap shows a few of the many I have ....

1059 was fitted w/ speakers on the rear shelf, at some point. Not sure if they were Faktory but --- a Blaupunkt Köln is listed on the Kardex

Interestingly, only 3 fasteners are still present w/ each speaker --- w/ no hole for the wiring . . . unless that was what the 4th was for?

Also --- notice the luggage strap lugs

    Anything in your cache w/ these dimensions? . . . 6.625" x 4.25"

No luggage strap lugs, here . . .

Noooootta lotta real estate, back there --- for both lugs + speakers

Would the presence of one preclude that of the other? --- in a Faktory install?
