    Ten Years

    Today ‘s my 10th anniversary with 1059

The date falls on a Wednesday, this year --- but, back when I bought the car . . . the 13th of Feb was on a Friday. Not really superstitious --- but I do believe in luck . . . and I do feel lucky. Especially when I think about where all of this started . . .

    Anyway . . .

. . . no response from Mr Redman (or PCA) regarding my note, back in August. In fact, I haven’t seen any more of his column in Pano, either. No surprise. No one who I’ve written to has ever responded to any of my notes --- not Mr Redman, Bell, Elford, Heuer . . . no one

But not that it makes that much difference, really. I can sit + look + touch + think about history, all day long. But after all this time, Nasty Car still gives me that same thrill as when I first saw her pics. Yeah-yeah --- after 49 years, motor ‘s a bit duff --- but hard to tell from the way she runs out. And the sounds and smells and feels are just as special as ever. And she ‘s prettier now, too --- cleaner, shinier, WAY straighter . . . thanks to John Esposito . . . + with all the bits that I’ve found/added, since --- like Uli’s seat + sliders . . . = more comfortable. More capable, too --- >400mi range – thanks to Rolly’s tank . . . and with brakes + suspension, regular service --- making/keeping everything working . . . thanks to Marco

Nothing else that I really want, anymore --- car-wise. Only barely look at anything new. I’ll have other cars, sure --- for the regular/day-to-day stuff . . . and maybe some more ‘fun’ cars, too --- + prolly always have my little BMW . . .

    . . . but as for the something ‘special’? . . .

. . . nothing that I can think of to take this car’s place

    I’ve already told my kids . . .

    . . . ‘When I'm gone? . . .

    . . . check the garage LAST

    2019 Phoenix Club Show

    Yup --- we went, again

Ran through some rain on the way out, but things cleared by the time we got there --- and we had a nice little run . . .

    . . . = 353.6 km/220 mi there/back

    More, here . . .

    Summer 2019

Kinda layin' back and just tooling-around, this year

Was really looking forward to some Car Shows, but . . .

    . . . The European Car Show @The Petersen didn't happen for me . . .

    . . . and Luftgekühlt didn't have space to accommodate me . . .

    . . . sooooooo

    Just sorta been tooling around

Have a nice/quiet/lightly-traveled/barely-patrolled loop that I take from my place, every week-or-so, week-ends usually, ~0500. Start-up takes a few more turns than before, but no drama, really. Pull out of the garage, then run her on the hand-throttle for a couple minutes on a little side road 'till we get to the street. Then 8-10 miles of boulevard stuff --- 3-4k rpm, just letting her settle-in + warm up

Then we hit a stretch of freeway

The on-ramp is flat right-hander --- kinda sharp . . . that then climbs for maybe 200 meters to the freeway proper. With 10-year-old 185s on the back, I'm no hero, here --- but once the line straightens? . . .

    . . . I stand on it

That slight incline may not exactly the best place to feel this car wind-up --- but, boy . . . it sure sounds good. Once we get on the freeway, its a slight downhill grade into the valley, so I'm up into high gears pretty quick. Pretty low-stress on the engine, too, so I'll get up ~160 kph-or-so, then just let the car run out before exiting onto another larger boulevard, and toddle on home

1059 gets some decent exercise --- put some heat into all her bits, round-out the tires, give the brakes a good/stiff scuff, dust everything up some . . . and make a little noise

Takes maybe 20 minutes, covers ~20km

Not exactly the Stelvio, buuuuuuut . . .

. . . its the road I have, right now

Looks like a great drive with the hills around you... all I get is flatness in the Netherlands.

Time for a new set of tires?
