    Nürburgring Trip Last Week

I was in Europe the past two weeks and got to make my 3rd trip to the Nürburgring... awesome as ever! Did 4 laps myself over two days and on the 4th the engine went into preservation mode!

Had a picnic lunch at the Karussel corner while there was an Audi driving school which included a race spec Audi R8 and a race spec Scirocco

Also visited Manthey Racing which is located just outside the track in the new business park. Fantastic shop.

Carl, Great minds think alike - I took 14 people from Delaware on a tour to Germany which culminated in 2 of my british buddies taking the members round the track in a GT3RS (new that week) and R8 v10 - fantastic place but quite busy when we were there. Plus a visit to Manthey - some amazing cars in there

Found this picture of the construction of the track last night. Looks like Pflantzgarten.

    Nurburgring visit

Carl excellent shots and I'm sure the on track experience was excilerating

to say the least,I must say after a few too many Top Gear Nurburgring

episodes lately I've been trying to determine the logistics for getting one of

my own vehicles or a factory rental for a real taste!

Oh and that R10 Audi is awsome but i doubt thats a Scirocco...maybe a

    mid-engine race-spec Peugeuot perhaps...neat very neat! Bert

It is a Scirocco- the new one not sold here in the US. I think that particular one was powered by CNG (compressed natural gas) for the 24 race. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Scirocco

Those Audi R8 GT3 cars are fast, but seem not to last long enough to beat the Porsches consistently. I would like to see them racing in the ALMS GT class with Porsche, BMW, Ferrari, Corvette, Jaguar, Ford GT.

    Max,

Here's a Scirocco of the natural gas variety at Manthey Racing from my trip. They did not like cameras there... no pictures inside except for reception.

    Still sounded like a racecar.

Doesn't have quite the "wow factor" of the GT3R Hybrid's flywheel/flux capacitor, but still cool when you do not have to buy foreign oil (well, the USA has Natural Gas but Europe gets a lot of "Erdgas" from Russia) and emit less CO2 in the process.

It looks like an R20. I thought Scirocco's were more svelte ...

It was running during the Audi driving school and the VW logo is on the hood. Definitely a Scirocco.

You think you're tearing around and then you see/hear a real racecar go by.
