Thread: need a guy to rebuild my dizzy

need a guy to rebuild my dizzy

car is '73 2.4 S. having idle issues that I believe may be related to worn fiber washers (is that the correct term?). When I turn the rotor is doesn't "snap back" very well.

I would like to end up with a dizzy that's set up for factory specs, I'm planning on keeping the vacuum retard (it is retard, right?) unless you guys talk me out of it.

I do like to keep my car as stock as possible.

any recommendations as to who I can send it to to get a good job? I would like the advance curve to be checked and corrected as needed.

    thanks.

    Ed Fall at Vintage Werks

Here is an example of his work on my cast-iron distributor.

Barry Hershon did the aluminum-bodied distributor in my 911E

    Contact info in both threads.

    Good luck!

I also do in house servicing, rebuilds and testing of distributors but have never actually promoted it.

Sounds like you need a new set of points, not a distributor rebuild. But I certainly second Ed Fall... did fine job for me.

    Dizzy rebuild

You can get the best from Jerry Woods. He is in Campbell CA. Ph 408 369-9607.

I had some flaky problems with the 65 on my trip to Monterey, it started with that 20% ethanol from Nebraska, and progressively lost idle for the next couple of days. We rebuilt the webers in a hotel room, changed filters and was still not back to par. Jerry woods and his guys spent some time with the car as we rebuilt just about everything fuel related (short of flushing the tank). While "doing everything" Jerry verified the dizzy was within spec, which it was (on both dyno's), but after getting the car back to running right he went "the extra mile" and rebuilt it with new weights and springs - to get it spot on. The guy is a wizard.

Car ran great on the return trip besting mileage at 30mpg at speeds over 80mph.

This is the same Jerry Woods who had winning crews at LeMans, Daytona and Sebring and is still known for his masterful 935 thru 962 engines. Look for his ad in this months "Excellence".

I had a pair of my "S" distributors rebuilt for the 67 race car by one of the other guys mentioned on this recommendation list - and he was OK. After having Jerry work on the 65's distributor I can whole heartedly recommend Jerry Woods.

    Dizzy rebuild

    For the 1965 to 1967S

    Barry $300 plus $100 parts + +(if it is a problem child)

    Don Marks $350 +

Jerry $ 450 (was a quote from a few years ago). On this trip it was part of the overall bill, very reasonable.

    Your Distributor may vary.

Note: springs and weights are a black art. The comparison given to me was its more like tuning a piano than changing a spark plug. If the spring pair are not "spot on" the reaction is erratic.

Don Marks passed away 1? year ago.

Ab Tiedeman is something like $150-$175 + parts.
