Thread: Cars to Buy NOW ?

  1. #11
The MKII GT3s and 964s are the current "Hot Buys" in the Porsche market.

Outside the P-Cars I'd aim for the E36 M3. It's too late to find any smoking deals on the E30s ... the secret's out.

Also, early fuel injected Ducatis are a SMOKING deal right now, especially the first year production 916 bikes built in Varese.

And what prey tell is a '964 S'? Those must be rare.

964S is a 964 Turbo Slant Nose (ha!), only made about 50 of 'em. They ROCK. Beautiful car.

Funny thing is, I used to hate Slant Nose Turbos. Sometimes....things grow on you, those usually turn out to be the things you like the MOST.

But really, WHO KNOWS? I buy cars I LOVE and LOVE to drive. Who cares about the rest?????

    Appreciation $$

With the exception of the 1997 993 S Twin Turbo, I don't believe there's been a Porsche built that has appreciated as their predecessors.

However, enter the NEW GT 2 RS. This car was built for only one purpose, ( talk about the perfect Rgruppe car), to break the Nissans' GT-R Record for the Nuremberg Ring. Porsche is only producing 500 cars. At 630 of raw HP, I think this car will break the 37 year cycle of appreciation while still very new.

The sticker price on these cars is suppose to be $258,000.00. Sources say that only the top producing US dealers will get "one" car ( I'm sure there will be a $ 50,000 mark up )....anyway my choice !

I stand corrected. Didn't know that was Porsche's designation for a 964 Slant nose. Gold is too high now or I would send you a nice chain to wear while driving it.

Oooo Raj, our minds think alike...

I have always loved the 330/365 GTC cars - beautiful understated elegance. The 365 drives beautifully. And the 275? Second to only the 250 GTO in my opinion (well, maybe the 250 SWB too). Lovely cars, but I think the ship has sailed for those. The 4 cam cars (which that one is not) are well over a million, but as I often hear, "what seems like 'all the money' today will be a bargain several years from now."

    What to buy today?
    SWB 911s
Documented race cars from almost any generation
Allard J2X (a totally undiscovered gem IMO)
Ferrari 365 GTC/4 (don't laugh, these can be good looking cars) fixed it - yes i did mean C/4. thanks naparsei.

Anything that is both "rally eligible" and "comfortable to drive with the wife" and "fun" is a good investment - and the 330GTC/365GTC hits the mark. These will be $300K cars, with the 365s getting a slightly premium. This was about the best GT car in the world in 1969 (by GT, I mean GT "grand TOURING"), and buying one now for $200K-$225K is smart. A/C that works, too.

I think you meant 365GTC/4, which I agree with, at <$100K -$125K; great torque, attractive in dark colors, cool cars. Most people find the 365GT/B already attractive (distinguishing between the C/4 and the B - the "B" is more generally referred to as the "Daytona").

    More . . .

    Lancia Stratos.

    1975

Next to the Countach, probably as outrageous a car as anyone'll ever make . . . and a race-winner.

    And More . . .

    Fiat 131 Abarth Rallye

    1977

Another race-winner (as driven by Markku Alen, Timo Salonen and this big skinny guy namedWalter Röhrl). Now, all but forgotten ---

I remember when Road&Track had one to 'test' back in the late '70s (?). Saw it driving on the street one night, in Newport Beach --- full Alitalia livery, too . . .

Doubt you will find an 89 Speedster for less than 50 large. Let me know if you do, I'll buy it.
