    Early Orange bar badge question

I have recently acquired an orange bar badge in very good shape. Supposedly it had been in storage for some 40 years or so. I need some input from others on here. Is there anything that looks modified or altered on this badge? Anything that isn't original? It looks very good to me but my eye is untrained. The badge also has the smooth back, and I'm getting varying information regarding the years of the smooth back. I've been told that the smooth back was used from 1965 to 1972 but others have said 1965 to 1968. I was told this badge came from a 1972. Any and all input is appreciated. I took the best pics I could.Name: 20140929_171905.jpg

Great looking NOS Badge! Good to 73 AFAIK. It's the real deal and don't let anyone tell you it's been modified. The badge on my 70S was smooth back.

Dead identical to a badge I got off a '73S. Note the dotted stipple on the antlers and the casting imperfection at the bottom left. Even the solder/brazing (?) marks go in the same direction. It is the real deal.

Thank you all for your help. This eases my mind that I didn't get taken. I feel very fortunate to have found one in such nice shape.

    Looks very nice indeed…..

….if you'd like something a little less 'perfect' we could always swap!

That is a really good badge. It looks like it still has the uber thin Reu clear coat.

Steve, what is the Reu clear coat? I continue to learn more and more about these things.

Fritz Reu and company was the supplier for Porsche for badges and nomenclature on the car. The circle R is the trademark. They made cloisonne badges for other rallies and events as well dating back to at least the mid fifties. They used to apply a thin clearcoat to almost all of their products originally. It looks in the photo that your badge still has it.
