    Roger's Race

Friday was Roger's Birthday. He spent it quietly with friends and family. After spending 9 days in the hospital, Roger is home.
He has been home for a week . 16 days ago he was readmitted to Mission Hospital for issues related to dehydration.
They also discovered a sepsys infection. He was treated with IV solutions for rehydration and a central line was started to administer antibiotics to his heart. A significant amount of a edema (swelling) added to his discomfort. Although he still has a small amount of edema in his legs he is doing much better.
His positive attitude and spirit is back !!

Roger's wife "Terrie" has created a blog regarding his condition. It can be found@

Yesterday John Wilhoit and I went over to Rogers house after our weekly Cars & Coffee breakfast. Shortly after our arrival, Don Murray, Freeman Thomas, Derek Boiks and Sheldon (Alfa guy) arrived. We visited w/ Roger for over an hour. He reminisced about his '62 Karmen Ghia, His father, Capt. William Grago USN etc.
After his setback of a couple of weeks ago he is back on the mend.
It has been just over 2 months since his diagnosis /surgery. He will continue his daily afternoon radiation treatments until Nov. 17th. The chemo treatment that have been daily till that point will change to once a month for 5 consecutive days.

Registration is still open for the Roger Grago Classic Car Tour!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tour 3 of the FINEST Collections of Cars and Airplanes in country.

Last week was a significant milestone in Rogers treatment regimen. As of last Wednesday he completed both daily radiation(IMRT) and chemo. Although he has completed the 6 1/2 week IMRT, he still has will still take a modified dosage of chemo, monthly for 5 days. Due to the swelling caused by the IMRT the next MRI is scheduled for December 20th @ that time Dr. A. Kim will review the results and determine the next course of treatment.

    Roger Grago Classic Car Tour
Saturday we met at our usual hangout, Cars & Coffee. About 50 diehards braved the rain to begin the first leg of our tour.
We left the parking lot around 8:20. We continued down the 5 fwy toward Coto de Caza arriving at the William Lyon Estate @ around 9:00.
Behind the iron gates of the 131 acre estate was his personal car collection. Under the roof of the 15,000 sq ft facility we found approximatley 60 vehicles, consisting of Duesenburgs, Packards, Cords, Mercedes, etc. The collection, valued at over $200 million, was surrounded by personal memento's.

The next stop was the Car Collection of Don Murray. Don gave us a personally guided tour of his 20+ cars. His collection is primarily Porsches with a few Ferraris and other collectables. All are driven monthly by Don. Don and his wife Carol hosted a Mexican style buffet lunch among the cars.

The 3rd and final stop was the Lyon Air Museum. The hanger located next to the main runway at John Wayne Airport housed a number of aircraft and vehicles. Among the B-17G, B-25, DC-3 were other vehicles of that era. A couple of significant vehicles was a 1940 Mercedes G4 Offener touring car and a 40's vintage Helm's Bakery wagon complete with that unique horn/whistle.

The day ended just as it started with Roger leading the way!

Roger had a second surgery today! I just left him. He is still in recovery. Dr. Kim started the proceedure @ 11:45am. He removed 85-90% of the tumor. It had grown back over the past few months. Although this operation took longer and was more invasive Roger is doing great. He was a little groggy from the anesthetic. But he has all of the senses!

He will be in ICU for a couple of days. After which he can have calls and visitors.
