    Opinions on best Radar Detector

Well, just got inducted into the Porsche world with a speeding ticket.
What is the best radar detector out there?
Is there one that would mount out of site and more permanent than suction cupped on the windshield?

    Thanks,
    Bud

Hands down, the Valentine, and when I use it (only on trips) it is stuck on the windshield.

    Bud,

In my estimation there's only one.......
    http://www.valentine1.com/

It goes from car to car ALWAYS...

If it wasn't for this device I'd probably be trying to answer your question in an orange jumpsuit ............

I agree, the Valentine 1 has been the only legitimate consideration over the last 15 or so years. I have had mine for 10+ and it has paid consistent dividends year in, year out! Have not educated myself on "current" technology in the last 5 years, there may be a better unit available but for the long haul I doubt it. Sales and service are what truly sets V1 apart. V1 website allows you to type in your serial number and it lets you know if an update is available.... Not to mention the Escort/Passport connection from years past when they were the gold standard. Make your own decision but.....don't buy anything but a Valentine 1!

    yup, I concur.

consider it a tool in your toolbelt, however.....learn how to use it and what information it is giving you....the arrows and bogey counter are giving you valuable information, just like your tachometer, oil pressure and oil temp gauges....any other radar detector is just an idiot light.

I bought my first v1 in 1996, and am a strong advocate for the brand, eventually convincing my wife, mom and dad to all equip themselves....I don't go far without one.

my other word of advice, plead not guilty and appear in court for the ticket you received. You should very easily be able to walk away with no points, just paying the fine, thereby eliminating the insurance surcharge.....and the next time you are pulled over (it does, and will happen, after all) you can still tell the office your license is clean, and hope for just a warning

Ok guys, the V1 is it! Thank you all!

I am scheduled for court Monday and was told by my State Trooper friend to plead guilty, he will take it from there.

I was quite surprised when the officer told me he could take me to jail! (63 in a 35)
I really thought he was kidding. So my reply "You're gunna take me to jail for just havin' fun? I was just getting ready to shift into 3rd gear! went over like a turd in a punch bowl!

    Thanks again!

I'm going to go against the grain on this one and put up the Passport 9500 iX. I traded the arrows for a GPS memory and eliminated the false reads that make other radar detectors cry wolf all the time. The red light database is another great feature, especially for diving in states that get you when you aren't in the presence of a cop, like California. It also distinguishes the types of radar being used: X band, K, and Ka along with laser. I also recommend the K40 laser diffuser for a 5 second chance to get on the binders and get a fighting chance against LIDAR. Not legal in Ca, but very much so in my home state of Nevada.

For many years, Car and Driver published results of radar detector tests. Year in and year out, the Valentine was the hands-down winter. The engineer who owns Valentine was a co-owner of Cincinnati Microwave, the company that markets the Pass Port.

Definitely show up for court. There always the chance that the officer won't show up, in which case the ticket gets tossed out.

    Ordered the Valentine.
It should be here about the time the new fuel pump from Porsche is here.
Plan to test them both out at the same time provided we don't get snow.

Court is Monday AM Neil, I'll be there pleading Not Guilty!
