Of the three cars mentioned in the old Road and Track article two now are accounted for. None of them were 911T Rally cars. The Pike car is actually a 911L TA not an S as the article describes, and the Vasek car now owned by John. Alan Johnson had an identical car to the Vasek car. There is a picture in a 68' Christo that shows Alan sitting in his Light Ivory 68S Rally Kit car.
There are no official lists that I know of as these cars were built in the normal chassis number ranges.

Don't suppose anyone has seen one of these motors for sale lately? I know a member here who is looking for a proper motor for his 68L rally car...
I have been trying to find out data for the 911 L race models and in particular the 1968 model year for ages. This thread is fantastic and still going.
In the early days of 911 motorsport Porsche encouraged private teams to race the 911 in order to broaden the competition base of the model. These SWB L's and T/R's are an example of an era when winning races was more important than matching numbers! Competition cars often had engines swapped or upgraded, indeed the whole idea behind the 911 design was that racing engines were fully interchangeable with the standard engines.
Apart from the many 911s raced in stock form, some T models had S or R derived engines, some L models had special race engines, the 1967 and 1968 R was based on the standard coupe which was given a Carrera 6 engine and lightened substantially. Rally kits and S upgrades were variously fitted, many teams ordering parts and doing the work themselves. These early competition cars generally came from the standard production series of road models and as such were not always designated. A fascinating story of a racing led car manufacturer during the glorious years of 1967 and 1968.
The base model 911 ran from the start of production and was extended for one year only in A series form in the US for 1968. Apart from being the base of the 911 R it was homologated to Group 2 in its own right (like the 911L whose 911/14 engine it shared). The base 911 had success in competition and rallying and many cars were rallied in stock form right from the start. One early SWB car was driven from the Paris Porsche concessionaire, raced at Le Mans 24, coming 12th, and then driven back to Paris. "Race on Sunday sell on Monday".
(The 911 and 911L were homologated to Group 2 touring, while the T and S were homologated into Group 3 (GT). Further complicating things the FIA approved of certain S components such as Camshafts carburetors and pistons for the Group 2 911/911L.
Therefore from 1967 to the end of 1969 the Porsche 911 was raced in just about every category you went to see on a Sunday afternoon. (Ref: Michael Cotton - Porsche 911 and derivatives.)

a cool lil side note is that the Wetson/Wetanson connection still lives on today as he is still racing in the vintage world...and he is still quick. He drives many marques...AM, Prancing Horse...etc etc etc. His stable is fantastic...and they are used!
