He means 8 and 9x16, by the way.

That is a combo I considered before I decided to keep a narrow body. the nine require rs flares and I was told they would be close. This seems valid as modern tire sizes are more easy to find. I think 225 front and 245 rears. I went the other way with 185 70 15 cn36's and I like not having to go 100 around on ramps to have fun. Happy holidays
i had them on my 87 cab and they fit fine, just wondered if anyone had gone that route with an S with RS flares

Are the 8s 951 offset? Any fender rubbing issues? Are you maxed out on camber? Is the ride height "normal"?...

I have what I believe are SC flares on my '73 S. I thought it'd be worth it to show you
8x15 on rear and 7x15 on the front. It's certainly my preference versus 16's although both look good to me.
Ya, the 8s on the front were the 23mm 951 offset. The 911 8x16 will not fit without front fender flares.
Clearance issues depend on the tire sizes you run on them. I ran 245F & 265R Kumho V700 (this was pre-V710, years ago) and Hoosier 245F/275R combos, which take some work to fit. A 225F/245R setup would be easier. The car was lowered and caster and camber were maxed out with just the stock bits, as camber boxes or modded struts would have bumped me up a class. The fender lips all had to be rolled, and in the rear, the spring plate bolts were shaved and the oil lines re-routed. The car had a Carrera cooler in the R-front fender, in series with a modded RX-7 cooler in the RS front bumper, and as I remember, I had to reposition the Carrera cooler slightly to prevent interference at high steering angles, and the fronts would also rub on the tub at full lock, which only happens at very slow speeds (parking maneuvers, etc.)
The downside to this setup was that the 265/275 rears are very tall (25.5") and final drive ratio suffered with the 8:31 R&P I had in the SC 915 in that car. An earlier 915 w/ 7:31 would have been better, but less robust. Before I sold it, the best setup for the track I found was 23x9-15 cantilever slicks on 7" rims in front, with 23.5x10.5-16 on a pair of 11x16" Duralite rims in the rear. This required pulling the rear fender lips another 1/4" or so, but the shorter and wider rear tire really helped improve the car. Here is a pic from Spring Mountain with that setup back in 2003.
