    Interior color codes

    On the Kardex for a car you can find a code that usually is found in the exterior paint code box, but seems to apply to the interior color in the next box.There is also a secondary code for fabric type.
    Primary code for color:
    A = rot / red
    B = schwarz / black
    C = braun / brown
    D = beige / beige
    F = blau / blue
    G = grun / green
    K = fawn

    Secondary code for fabric type:
    C = corduroy
    P = pepita / hound's tooth

    Leder = leather
    Kunstl. or K'Leder = leatherette

    This coding form applies from 1965 through 1968 model years for both 911 & 912.

    Dave

    this is a good thread to start. hopefully it will add to the collective knowledge of how to interpret the data on the early cars.

    The 2 part alphabetical codes and their placement in relation to the paint code makes sense to me.

    They seem almost identical to the ones used for 356's.
    they are for the 356 colour chart W15 printed 6.63:
    color:
    A Red
    B Black
    K Fawn
    D Grey
    G Green
    F Blue

    Materials:
    C Corduroy

    It appears when Corduroy was not used there was no second letter. This document states that interiors are in leatherette or leatherette and corduroy combined so there may have been another code for leather.

    My question is how long were these used for? Was it until the new chassis numbering system came in in 1969 or maybe when they changed the paint codes at one time?

    I am much more familiar with the data from the early 1970's where a much more detailed 2 number system was used added onto the exterior paint code to provide a 6 number exterior colour and interior colour and type of material for both the upholstery and the seats. this is best seen in the build details in the RS book but is also on all the order details placed with the factory.

    For example my 73 coupe is 111132 translated to light ivory (1111) with tan leatherette interior (3) and seats done in tan leatherette with a corduroy centre stripe (2).

    Below is my understanding of the interior codes that applied by this stage (from at least the early 70's.)

    I guess "Kunstl." is Kunstleder or "leatherette?"

    What other color interiors exist that we are missing? Green, blue and white or grey I believe. My database has two instances of white, but it is possible that it was grey instead.

    Hugh's list above covers 1969 and later (how late I wonder). My 1969 Kardex examples show the two digit code prefaced by 98; so 9822 would be brown leatherette with corduroy inserts.
