Thread: Interior color codes

    K.D. heft number is the Customer service number (Kunden Dienst). That number can also be found in the warranty booklet that goes w/ the car.

    I need some more help on the 1969 interior codes. After looking at a few more Kardex and other documentation it seems that the prefix can be either 98 or 99 with about a 50/50 split in occurrence. Is there anything in the literature that explains the difference?

    9821 is mentioned on a Kardex as 'A LEAT A' and on a COA as red leatherette
    9822 is mentioned on a Kardex as 'A LEAT B' and on a COA as black leatherette / basketweave
    9823 is mentioned on a Kardex as 'A LEAT C' and on a COA as brown leatherette
    9824 is mentioned as beige leatherette

    from the brochure in post 20 for 1969 it seems the codes were a continuation of 1968 and earlier, thus last digit:
    A = 1 = red
    B = 2 = black
    C = 3 = brown
    D = 4 = beige

    the other codes I have nothing on:
    9922
    9923
    9932

    also rumors of 9802 & 9812 that may have interior context
    I believe that the first digit '9' indicates options, and that the second digit is related to different classes of options. The third digit '2' may refer to the leatherette / basketweave combination. There are also leather, corduroy & pepita to be encoded.

    ROW madras

    Dave and Hugh good thread! My 73S is an Italian spec, M34, car with cinnamon leatherette. The seat inlays are tan madras. The seats are original and confirmed by the first owner in Italy. Being an ROW car would there be an additional designation for madras as opposed to the other fabrics, cord and dogtooth? There were three colors for madras I think. Blue, red and tan. My car is 310 built 11/72. Aubergine/cinnamon/32 Steve

    What VIN is this for? Cords for corduroy is good. Perle for perlon carpet perhaps. A copy of the Kardex would be most useful to me in this research.

    Eric, thanks for photos. My tan madras has the same colors but in a much different pattern. My inlays are exactly like the photo in B. Johnson's book on pg. 54. The samples you have are significantly different. My car is ROW 11/72 build and normal seats. Yours look like sport seat covers if that makes any difference. SS

    Thanks. Interesting you were able to get a full Kardex without any info removed.

    Yes, I also noticed it. Got it through the Dutch dealer a couple of years ago. They don't supply it anymore, only if the numbers you give them are matching or not. Pity...
