    Wiring up a Frankfurt

    Hey guys,

I reworked my dash facia and in the process I pulled out the 1980's "updated" stereo and found a nice US frankfurt that I now have in there. It looks great! I'm not going to wire it up to a speaker until I redo the upper dash. That being said I'd love to wire it up just so it lights up and looks cool. Does anyone know if having it powered up without a speaker load attached will damage it?

Any tribal knowledge on this one would be very helpful,

    Best,

    Alex

Update - I bought this radio just under a year ago and only now have I tried to wire it up. It appears to me to not be working. I hooked it direct to the battery both for + / - and nothing. No lights - nothing. I did not hook it up to any speakers as I was just testing to see if it would power up.

Anybody have any thoughts? I opened it up and don't see any signs of burnt components or wires.

    Any pointers would be appreciated,

    Thanks,

    Alex

Try hooking up a speaker and see if you get any sound. The internal lights are notorious for burning out. You'll probably have to use an antenna to actually pick up any stations as these are ancient technology radios even though they were "state of the art" when new.

In those early radios , not having a load on the speaker wires could blow a diode.
