    Restoring ex- Michael Piech 911S 2.0 1969

    Hi,

I started a blogg on my recently bought restoration project- 911S 2.0 1969.

The car is now in Sweden. The body is in a very poor shape, but it's complete, matching and built for and used by Michael Piech!

I'll for sure need all your help as this is the first 911 I restore, but I've done over 10 other major restorations, from Mini to Dino 246GT, all on a hobby base.

    Best regards
    Bjorn

Bjorn if you ever find out why Porsche's rust more on the left than on the right side please post. I have seen that w/ 356 and 911 and have never read a good explanation.

Welcome to the board! Best of luck with your project. It will be a fun, yet mind numbing and sometimes a stressful couple of years but it is worth it in the end.

Funny thing! I have two good examples of left side rust-infected Porsches! Never thought of it until now!

I´ll be following your resto Björn, Swede here as well!

Welcome Bjorn, very nice project, can't wait to see the progresses.
I have to admit that I spoke with the vendor of this car a couple of times about it, but got scared about the amount of metal work needed.
In the end you'll have an important car in a wonderful color and with a nice history.

Back then in winter and cool weather use, while cooling down from a ride any air/oilcooled Porsche engine sucks MUCH MORE humidity into engine/chassis comportment than a watercooled engine.
Already in 1967/68, 911 clients reported problems with rust and this pushed the factory to add underbody spray (1970) and to later galvanise bodys preventing cars to let them rust premature.

Now we just have to know why left more than right, it might depends on equipement. Maybe coils, maybe tubes or other hot areas around fan and/or engine. just guessing.

    Hi all,

    Thanks for positive comments.

    My 911S is chassis 119 300 970.

The reason more rust on LH side is, according to me, that all power full/fun to drive cars drive close to the middle of the road and get dirt/water/salt from meeting traffic. Look at other sport cars and "GTI" cars. Low powered cars are more worn on the RH as they drive closer the ditch, ie Japanese vehicles.........This is valid for RH traffic. 911's in particular has help from the oil cooler pipes that are hot and dry te internals of the sill.

I'll soon post more pictures and some questions.

    Best regards
    Bjorn
