Expert opinion on real or fake aluminum wood wheel

A guy on Facebook marketplace is advertising a large collection of original 356/911/912 parts for sale in London. If interested, your supposed to send your wish list and he’ll see if he has it. Of course everything I ask about, he has. Naturally my sketchy radar is going off because he has no reviews, just joined Facebook and seems rude and I’m wasting his time with questions. Regardless, let me get to my point now.

I asked about any original condition swb wood steering wheels he might have available. He sent me these pics below. Naturally I was excited to see an early aluminum wood wheel. I questioned its authenticity because of several things. The screws, instead of rivers around the hub behind the horn button. The black painted center and backside area around the hub which is usually silver/aluminum on everyone I’ve seen. Of course, I asked for a closer pic of the center area where the nut attaches the wheel to the steering column. See pic below, it looks like from another wheel because it looks too silver in color compared to the other photo without the horn button on.

I told him I thought it was a reproduction and of course he is upset and blocked me from his ad or buying anything. Not a big deal, I felt uneasy about the guy anyways. Not very good customer service. Check out the pics below and let me know your thoughts. Real or fake, just curious.

And when he sends you the pictures of the tall engine lid grill have him include a picture of today's London newspaper. Lol!

Whatever it is, it looks terrible.

Also, the last two pictures do not look to be from the same wheel. The inner part of the hub that has splines is black in the second to last image, where it's metallic in the last.

If you want a real wood aluminum wheel, send me a PM ;-).

If you want a laugh, take a look at craigslist london. Lot's of 911S engines for under 5K. Cheap Solexes too. Money to be made... for someone.

    What's his name?

If he's genuine I sure one of us 'locals' would know of him.

John Herril, I don’t even know any other info on him. Says he joined Facebook in April of this year and he’s blocked everything on his ads so know one can see anything.
