In April of 2021 I was getting the car ready for a Virginia rally and the motor started acting strange... hesitation on acceleration, intermittent popping... power way down.
I was very disappointed but we decided to not take a chance of driving that long distance to Roanoke. Did a quick compression test and numbers were bad. Almost 2 months later, did a leak down and those numbers were also bad. Diagnosis: motor needs full rebuild. ... I had been thinking about the possibility of something like this happening for several years. The motor had worked great for a long time but the miles were piling up.

Being faced with this issue I realized it was an opportunity to do something special... something I've always wanted to do: 3.2 short-stroke twin-plug ignition, 10-1 compression, upgraded cams ... 46mm PMOs and more.

The cost is enormous and I've had to sell my 914 project and a whole mess of other odds and ends I've collected over the years. The motor is being built at Automobile Associates of Canton, CT and its assembly was completed this week. Still need to get it installed in the car and get everything hooked up. I'm also having a 100 liter center-fill gas tank installed and I'm changing the ring gear back to 8:31 from 7:31.

We're pretty psyched to say the lest. Not sure when it will be done but hoping for maybe early July. Fingers crossed.
