    More Nürburg Ring badges

    Another variation of the back-side of a Donner . . .

    'Sunken' . . . just not as much. And check-out the spareness + size + font + position of the Donner stamping

    With so many of these badges made --- and for so long . . . finding a way to chart some of these not-so-subtleties might be a way to date some of this stuff. Just need some back-up documentation/testimony/what-ever

    Also, on eBay . . .

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-550-...item4605e1336d

    When I think of all the years I spent looking for this stuff. And now? . . . here it is . . . on-line . . . by the fistful . . . gotta love the 'Net

    what I believe to be the first anniversary badges. '52 & '57. latter shows no evidence of a maker mark.

    Hey Rick,

    nice one, but in this context:

    grösste = greatest

    schönste = most beautiful

    "greatest and most beautiful car racing track in the world" please ;-)

    and you are right: Rotten Johnny rocks: Never Mind the Bollocks....

    You can find it on ebay in the completed auctions in the last days. She has also an interesting Christmas card for sale. Apparently her father was into Porsche's and a race car driver.

    '. . . Daddy raced at Nurburgring quite a bit in the 1950s when we lived in Germany. He had lots of car badges, many of them trophy badges, but he never mounted any of them on his cars. If they were pretty enough or important enough, they ended up displayed in the library. I ran across this one after both parents died and have been finding one treasure after another ever since! I suspect this one never made it to the library because it's a very simple yet bold design and it argued with the others on display. I don't think there is any race affiliated with this one. I think he was given the badge at some point for some reason. If you would like to have a photo of Daddy (digital scan only) to go with the badge, I can provide. At least two of them are at Nurburgring for sure. It is marked Adam Donner Wuppertal (the maker I'm sure) and is in very clean condition. The design hasn't changed much over the years, so the mark probably dates it for avid collectors of car badges . . .'

    Sold = $290

    Score!

    I'll add to the thread. My girlfriend was born in Germany. Her dad was in the service at Zweibrucken Airbase, and him and his wife lived there starting in 1958. Being in a car guy, he bought a used red 356 almost immediately and started doing rallies with his wife as navigator. Sometime then, he obtained the Nurburgring badges shown. He then sold the 356 and went to England and bought a new Austin Healey 100.

    After my girlfriend was born, they returned to the US in 1961. They returned to Germany in 1963, where he was contemplating buying a 300SL; unfortunately, he didn't. Eventually, they returned back to the US.
    So, my GF's mother was cleaning out her laundry room closet last month, and found the badges wrapped in a paper towels.
    Here is his car...don't know the year; possibly a 55 or 56. His wife and German shepherd (Jingles) are looking out the window. The other photo is somewhere in the country near there.

    Here are the badges; a regular Nurburgring Adam Donner Wuppertal, and a 30th Anniversary badge. They were on his car back then.
