    Other Lesser-vintage Badges . . .

    . . . that I've seen.

Looks like the basic design/colors/details have been settled-on, pretty much. Consequently, tough to tell some of the later badges apart.

    Notice . . .
    1) . . . the curve/shape of the 'G'
    2) . . . the tidiness and uniformity of all the shapes, widths, and finishes
    3) . . . the shape of the tabs

    . . . Like this lovely battle-scarred/patinated veteran . . .

    Notice . . .
    1) . . . just how thick the enameling is at the 'chip'
    2) . . . that all the metal and enamel surfaces are level with one another --- no reliefs . . . except at the 'chip'
    3) . . . that the 'eyelets' are flat --- no raised detail

    5) . . . the Donner stamp, inside the 'wing' on the back
    LongRanger,

Think this may be the version I have on my car. I will pull it off and take a look at the back tonight. Do you have any idea what period these were produced for?

    Cheers

    Hey, Dirk . . .

Think the best way to tell what's what is to look at the back --- surface finish, maker's marks, citations, etc. All the badges start looking pretty similar on their face, after some point. Yours looks like most.

Interesting --- badge has a goldier tone to the lettering + sunburst + all the exposed inner metal surfaces --- not most of the outer. Discolored 'clear-coat,' worn off in places, maybe? Nice mellow look.

Take an angled shot, too, if you can --- show the surface. Eyelets (mounting tabs), too.

    Hi Rick,

Here are some closer shots (sorry for the poor quality - combination of iPhone and lighting issues). Badge appears to have a fairly thick clear coating all over. The number 36 is stamped in the rectangle on the back. No other markings. Measures about 6.5 cm (2.5 inches) side to side (not including eyelets).

Any ideas on era / manufacturer?

    Cheers

    Hey, Dirk . . .

    Hmm. Interesting badge . . . especially the back+edges . . .

When I first see this, from the front . . . reminds me most of the ‘wreathed’ ’65 --- lettering, gold-ish finish. But then the letters look less-consistent/lower quality, especially the ‘U.’ Can’t tell from the photos --- is the front lettering made up of metal, sticking up through/surrounded by black? Looks 'flat' . . . is it? Clear-coating sounds like a more-modern touch . . . would guess the date as ‘after (maybe way) 65/before ’90.’

    The back --- very interesting, fine detail --- finished-off, in a way I haven’t seen on any other N-badge . . . not pebbly+not smooth . . . textured. Edges very finished --- actually wrap around --- nothing like a Donner . . . higher-quality detail, this. Tabs ('eyelets') are small, thick, sturdy-looking --- finished, as well . . . unique. ’36’ is interesting but --- with no Maker’s marks . . . no ideas.

    Keeping your pictures.
