Almost too clean for a perfect evocation.
After a few drives, it will be just good

You're right, 928cs...but it needed cleaning after so many years. Here are some pics of the interior....

A fantastic build thread Gib, which I have thoroughly enjoyed reading over the past 24 hours.

Real inspiration for me, along with all the amazing builds by darren65, billy bean, stretch, boyer73s, and am really excited now as the container ship with my donor 72T aboard is due to dock at Southampton in 4 hours' time!

In a few day's time another '72 ST build thread can begin!

Good luck with your project! 72 911s are very special cars, are the best for an ST tribute. Get the body work with correct flares to make the best statement, then build a strong MFI engine, correct wheels and you are golden. The journey is what it is about...enjoy it all the way with no hurrying.

    Thanks Gib.

Your comments all the way through your thread about getting the bodywork, shut lines and paint spot on resonates strongly with me as I too believe this is the mark of a high-quality build.

I have just received some S/T arches and flares hand-rolled on an English Wheel, which were based on a set of originals and made by a Porsche body shop in the UK who has been doing Porsche restorations for 40-odd years:

My car as you may already be aware is going to be an accurate replica of the GeLo racing team car, as it raced alongside the Toad Hall car at Le Mans in '72, with a long-stroke 2.5 MFI, no through-bonnet filler and the front wing filler flap still in situ:

The project will take as long as it takes to get it right, including sourcing all the right parts (although I think common sense dictates that there will be a number of reproduction parts on the car, such as Elephant Racing crossover lines, new front coolers, ally rear lid & door skins, GRP front lid and possibly new Otto Fuchs forged 7's (or 8's - not sure if the GeLo car was running them at LM or not) and 9's in correct finish, rather than '72-dated 3-prong ones (as much as I'd love some!) etc etc).

I am waiting with baited breath to be able to inspect the donor '72 T once it has been picked up from Southampton and then the process of stripping it will begin! I am fearing the worst with the shell but you never know, I might get lucky!

There’s something I meant to add about the Toad Hall and GeLo cars - they have something quite special in common in that they were the only M491 2.5 S/Ts which entered and started Le Mans in 1972 (#41 and #44 respectively) - how cool is that?!

You’ll know of course that Keyser & Barth finished the race - and finished well in 13th place - but the GeLo car retired in the 8th hour with crankshaft failure - a common problem with the type 911/70 long-stroke that year due to the vibrations it produced, unlike the type 911/73 short-stroke in the TH car. The five other 911 S which started the race (which were either customer-built S/Ts like Kremer #80, or updated S/Ts from 1970 or ‘71) also failed to finish with engine-related problems, so a frustratingly uncompetitive and unreliable Le Mans for the Porsche GT cars but 1973 was to prove much more fruitful with the RSR.
