Thread: Light Yellow ST in Progress

  1. #241
    Catching up with yours, John....

Here are some pics after having a black headliner installed, plus front and rear glass and dash. I found a local guy who worked for Autos International for 13 years, and has now relocated to the Phoenix area (Scott Johnson). He did a really nice job on the headliner, and together we installed the F/R glass. Front is tinted, and rear has no defrost wires and is tinted from a 912.

I have been debating for awhile whether to reinstall the Becker Europa radio that came with the car. It has been rebuilt, along with the amplifier that came with it. It would never be in a factory ST of course, but maybe a few guys who bought an ST kit for their S, E, or T left the radio in....Sounds a bit like a poor case of rationalization, huh.

But this radio is so nice now that it has been reconditioned...and it also has a cord plugged into the back for an Ipod connection, so I have decided I will put it in and try it. I have mounted Blauplunkt speakers in the cardboard-backed 'pocket' using old carpet pieces. I am going to use one of the hidden antenna kits mounted to the underside of the fiberglass hood. Maybe the FM/AM reception won't be great, but the Ipod should work ok. Again, it will be a trial to see how it works, but nothing is being installed that can't be taken back out with no tracks left. Another option for the speakers is to install after-market dual speakers beneath the grill, but I think the side mounted speakers will sound better.

Here is the Bosch cutoff switch mounted on the cowl, which has an old plug wire connector to seal it from rain, and a small O-ring seals up the hole in the cowl. I used an old battery hold down strap to fabricate a 'bracket' to hold the cross-over oil lines in place. One bracket is sufficient because of the rigid connections with the hard lines connecting to the coolers under the fenders. A piece of rubber matt material provides a cushion beneath the strap.

Ok Gib, I'm a few beers deep so I'll try to hold back! A radio?? Really? You know better. Do you think the car your building this from had one? I just drove 2800K miles and didn't miss it once. Ok, now I'll breath again.

Scott, you just might be outnumbered on the radio....I'm thinking about going down that same path!! The horror....

I went to Atlanta and visited Franz Blam to check out the engine and then to Aaron and Keith at Zuff to examine the body this past weekend. Michael Eberhardt was with me and helped arrange it all. I have some things I'll need to discuss with both you and Gib.

    Gib, your car looks fantastic!

Well, Scott, you probably don't have the singing voice I have....

Also, this from a guy whose Factory ST Look doesn't even have a fake Bosch cutoff switch (like mine), or which has fake Bosch CD boxes while hiding MSD stuff...or one that installed SSI heat exchangers...or....(I could go on, but for the sake of your reputation I will stop. )

Some guys are even contemplating installing AC....(John Esposito's SCRS)...so I feel a slight reprieve from the Sports Purpose list is ok as long as your heart is 99% pure...

Marco, if I hadn't sold the electric window operators to Hugh, I would probably put them in also. It must be something in the water over here in AZ, or my brain has been taken over by a 'gold chain hippie'.

    Hey Gib
I am always happy to GIVE them back to you to make it a real luxury ST

you can have air, fast glass, radio AND Ipod, and maybe someone can stump up for heated seats for those cold Arizona nights

I asked Levon, when he bought the car new, there was no radio in it, it was bare bones. (he did own & race #15 Toad Hall 911) plus, he can build you the correct (or the correct looking engine, if you get my drift)

Lol, if you look at the picture I built the car from I sould actually drill the hole for the cut off switch but leave it out just like the picture. Gib, they have this new technology called Iphones with noise cancelling head phones.
