Here are some shots Marco sent from Le Mans with the Toad Hall ST in the Porsche Classic display area. Marco with Hurley Haywood and Derek Bell. Also a shot of the #1 and #2 P1 Hybrids in the pit area.

Got a very nice surprise in the mail today...

Porsche Classic commissioned Spark to produce a run of 500 1:43 Toad Hall ST models to commemorate the display of this famous 72 911 ST at Le Mans and CLM this year. Marco sent me one...thank you Marco!

These models are amazing in the minute details. A very special collectible.

I'm not so sure Gib, the build on that model looks way too sharp for a race car!

But then Marco's car also looked damned pretty at CLM .....

.....would have looked even better on the race track!....

    Cheers,

I will be taking the 67 aluminum case 2.7L engine in this ST apart soon to build a twin plug 2.7L MFI engine with Mahle 90 mm 10.3 CR P&Cs. I have been debating this change for some time, and while it is hard to tear down a great running engine, the LY ST deserves to have a twin plug MFI engine making wonderful sounds. The list of 72 STs we have seen on the Ultimate ST thread shows the factory built 2-2.7L twin plug engines toward the end of the run for these special competition cars.

The early aluminum case will need to have bosses added for the MFI pump, so it will go to Ollies for that work, and it will be an opportunity to freshen all the components. The Mahle 90 mm P&Cs are pretty special, and have the cylinder skirts 'mooned' for better cooling like all the race P&C kits. The 90 mm 10.3 Mahles were only available through the Racing Dept. in the day, and have recently been rarely made available. They are designed for the standard 2.7 head combustion chamber so that no additional work is required to keep their CR as specified unlike the 92 mm Mahle sets which require head work to prevent a very high CR unless you have the very rare 2.8L heads.

Since those 2.7 ST's were '72 and pre-date the '73RS, I thought that they might have built them using parts on the shelf: a set of 2.5 89mm short stroke ST PCs used with a 70.4mm crank (instead of a 66mm) = 2.7.
