Gib, I’m curious about the RSR oil filter. Why is this used in place of the standard oil cooler? I assume your car (and others using the RSR filter) have front mounted oil coolers. And, don’t 993’s have a similar filter set up instead of a cooler? Thx. Nick

    Nick

2.5 ST’s had twin front oil coolers so the engine cooler not needed
and the oil filter using paper discs was used instead.

I have had issues with mine it leaked from the mag body and the replacement was cracked but EB Racing have been great in replacing both times with no hassles only problem is engine out every time to replace it

    Engine will be epic Gib.

Gib, as always your engine is going to be amazing. Regarding the oil cooler question, my 2.8 uses the 993 small canister setup in lieu of the cooler and it works well. Only issue is filter changes are a little tidious due to tight space but no biggie.

I was advised by Gordon Ledbetter last week that the rear engine oil filter was also used as an oil pressure control device for the early aluminum race engines which did not have pressure relief valves in the case (even though the passages were in the casting but not opened). He has restored a 911R which used this type of filter/pressure control setup. The pressure was adjusted using the screw in the bung as seen in the pic attached.

Thanks Clyde, I see you also used a similar filter to Gib. I didn’t know the 2.5 ST used this set up. On my car I kept the oil cooler, plus the twin front coolers. No wonder my car never gets above 180 F!

I bloody hope they did Nick for all the money it has cost and frustration the filter has caused.

I think I did my research pretty well but would be ironic if I was wrong

I think I remember seeing it on the Olive tart too

Clyde- I’m sure your research is spot on and I’m sure you’ll get the issue solved. I’ve got some changes/upgrades in the works for my engine. I’d better start reviewing the ST threads again....
