The Oldest 911 in the US

    Hey guys,

I know this is my first post. I'm a lurker with two '67 912s and a 996 cab, so I usually don't have much to offer. A funny thing happened to me today and I thought you guys would be just the people who would want to know about it.

I had a meeting this morning with a woman I've worked with for more than ten years. After the meeting, the conversation turned to cars, and the woman told me that her husband owns the oldest 911 in the States - the one Porsche just recognized as the oldest anyway. I had no idea they owned an old Porsche. Another guy at the meeting has a '73 Targa. What are the chances? Anyway, it's a '65 and he's owned it since '74. Some (or all of you) may be familiar with the car. It's dark blue with black. She says it is completely rust free, unrestored and original and that her husband has every scrap of paper including the registration cards back to day one. Now, I don't know if her husband is aware of this yet or not, but the woman says it has come time to sell.

I'm just curious what the car might be worth, and I also thought one of you guys might be interested if it actually does turn out to be for sale.

You can see recent pictures of the car on Teamspeed. Someone took them at an event at Porsche of Annapolis.

Do you know the VIN? I thought Seinfeld had the first 911.

Not the first 911 but the one recognized by Porsche as the oldest of the model originally imported into the US, correct?

Pretty car BTW. Love that blue.

    Car # 301453

From the "is my car a 1965 or a 1966" thread that would be a May or June 1965 production. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...6-911-a-9.html

This blue Car looks to be an excellent example of a 1965 Porsche.

Having been the Porsche promotion finalist to recognize the earliest 911 imported into the USA, via the US Dealer network was a great venue to showcase these fine cars.

(This car met all of the fine print on that promotion criteria...ie. make your car available for the duration of the promotion, show worthy condition, bonafide US dealer connection etc.)

    Quite a nice accolade.

It is interesting that in my database there are 100 cars reported in the USA with lower VIN's.
I'd bet that there are at least as many more that I do not have listed.

So was the selection criterion oldest car that signed up, or oldest one on record as having been an USA export? Probably the former. It would be interesting to know the first car that Porsche officially shipped to the US Market. Porsche knows.

Seinfeld may have a lower number 911 squirreled away in his NYC garage, but I think the sign that accompanies this race car answers the above quote fairly definitively

The photo was shot in April of this year at Sears Point, and the car can be frequently seen at Nor.Cal & Nev. track meets.

This car seems to be missing it's engine bay decals or did they became an add on later? If so then we have a reference point.
