Thread: FS: 65 - 68 SWB Rear bumper end caps... finally....

  1. #11
I should re-phrase my question really, at what point were these introduced?

I've done a little looking in my archive of stuff and I can't see the trim in any of the original road test photos. So I've been through my 64, 65 & 66 Christophorus and the only picture I've found which has them is in one of the 66 magazines. The car in question does have four screw horn grills. Were they an option?

They are in the parts book

Take a look at the parts book, the numbering sequence leads one to believe the stainless caps were in the mix since the first. They have a drawing reference number in order with other common items from the very beginning, later items such as the rubber faced bumperettes that arrived with the 1966-67 cars have larger sequence numbers.

Here is a data point: a December 1964 car has them.

    DK,
Group 8/4. Illustration is dated 3/69, text is 6/67, page 5 (of 8)

The end caps follow the illustration sequence numbers of the front bumper reinforcement (weights) from chassis 301 340. My guess would be in production spring/summer 1965, with prototypes and testing sometime earlier.

    Thanks Bob,

I've got them illustrated in my parts manual but it's 6/66.

It does make sense to have them and not sandblast the rear bumper ends from the sticky rear tyres!

I'll take a pair please Eric (PM sent)

    Thanks
    David

5 year bump.... as Maverick said, you could almost call these NOS. Actually a new run was finally made. $80 per pair, includes the hardware, plus shipping. Same price as many years ago.

Buy these and help fund future projects, I'm running out of $$!DSC_0006.jpgDSC_0009.jpgDSC_0010.jpg
